We were having some simple plumbing work done on our upstairs and a pipe sprung a leak. Water gushed through the ceiling towards my desk and soaked my main PC, a digital camera and my PocketPC. after some serious drying efforts, all miracuously seem to work, however the e740 seems to have absorbed some water inside the screen. There is a "halo" of moisture that extends about a 1/4" around the perimeter of the screen. The thing seems to work, however I'm hesitant to use it until it dries out. Any advice?

Just for kicks, I set it on top of a heating pad in hopes that the moisture will evaporate out. the contractor is offering to pay for it, but I suspect it will be taken out of the guy doing the work's salary and don't want a pissed off plumber working in the house. Maybe he'll pay for it and I'll get a change order that costs roughly $600 extra!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Do you or the plumbers have any kind of insurance to cover accidents like this? Also, is your device covered under any kind of manufacturers warranty? It is just a thought.

A hair dryer on low would dry it out and tell you if it is damage or moisture. Disassemble it as far as you feel comfy and use the dryer to blow air through. Be sure and touch case now and then and be sure it isn't getting hot. Just warm dry air should dry it out in a little while.

Just for information - plain water in any electronic device will normally not do damage if the power is off and you dry it out before powering on. If liquid such as coke is another problem. Powering on will usually fry something.

I have taken circuit boards out and given them a gentle shower and a real good drying and been successful.

If you can't wash with water some electronic stores have a chemical wash that leaves no residue - just wash the liquid out with that (radio shack may still carry something).
