If so, which Clie did you switch to, and why? Is there anything you miss about your old Clie?

Yep! I started with the Clie 710, went to the NR series, upgraded to the NX and finally just had the NZ90.
What I miss the most is the WEIGHT of the dunb things!
This Zire is awesome! It does everything that I used my Clie for and I think the screen is better than the NX or NZ..at least easier on my eyes. My picutures are as good as the NX and I didn't get good pictures with the NZ either. I am thrilled with this and can't believe it was just $299..plus a free 128 meg memory! I don't feel I have to worry about it being lost or taken from my purse.
All of my games etc work beautifully on it. I am just thrilled!
And I truly don't miss a thing about the Clie!

I totally agree, that is why I asked. I do miss MSImport, though.

I've had two Sony Clie's in the past: N760C and the T665C. The T665C had brilliant color like the Zire 71. As a matter of fact, I'd say Sony has been the lead of color on PDA's...now the Zire 71's color is as good....and even better, especially with displaying fonts.

I miss Sony's expansion card (memory stick utility) MSGATE. It allowed copy and move to and from the expansion card. Sadly the Zire 71 only has a copy utility. Thus leaving a copy on both the internal RAM and the Card. That's something I'd say Palm should have looked at better.

I applaud Palm with the Zire 71's buttons. I find the Clie flawed with smaller buttons, especially the up/down button. I've read since the Clie' comes from Japan, it's built for smaller fingers for the Japanese. But then why mass produce models for the US that doesn't make the buttons for larger fingertips?

The Zire 71's buttons are great. Especially the up/down left/right navigator stick. It's pretty cool.

One other thing, Palm should have designed a better case for the Zire 71. Usually whenever I put it in the case that came with it, the Navigator stick turns it on for a bit. I'm hoping the other PDA case makers take this into account with their upcoming Zire 71 cases.

Regards,

MZ

I'd been using a T665c. This Zire 71 is so much better. Now I can use my Teal Movie Player and it runs smooth and has sound. Sony's sound API's interfered with Teal's sound which were made for Palm's sound API's. Kinoma is nice too. Love being able to take out my SD card from my camera and slide it into the Zire and look at the photos.

Have you tried either:

VFSi (http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-PaloAlto/7022/index.html) or

Filez (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=9992)

Either of these are better than MSGate and they are both freeware.

Frankly, I am a McFile kinda guy, but that isn't freeware.

StormsCloset, where did you find a Zire 71 with a free 128 memory card? I didn't see anything on Palm's site about a special promo for this, but sure hope the offer's still good at whatever retailer or site you bought yours from!

Looking forward to your reply...

John

Comp USA had an ad in the paper a week ago Sunday advertising $20 off the 128 meg memory with a $70 mail in rebate. Staples didn't honor it, but Best Buy just gave me a free 128 memory!
Got to love Best Buy!

Thanks StormsCloset. No CompUSA in my town, but the folks at Best Buy know me well. They keep kicking me out of the store for drooling on the new Palm OS5 PDAs... :)
