Hello everyone

I'm particularly interested in the T/C primarily for accessing my Outlook (not Outlook Express) server e-mail from work using my 802.11 connection at home.

I have a desktop with Outlook XP, but I would like to be able to check and synchronize e-mail, contacts, etc without having to turn on the desktop (for example, when I get up and am eating breakfast in the morning.....read and respond to e-mail before getting to work.

Can anyone tell me how well the T/C works with Outlook? Also, if I receive a Word attachment or PowerPoint, how easy is it to really read them?

Thanks in advance!

John

We use Lotus Notes at work but I'm sure Outlook will do this as well.

I'm now able using my home network and the C's VPN to sync from home with all my work computer conduits. Using Docs to Go, all the attachments I normally receive are very readible. I've yet to edit an attachment and send it on.

It works as advertised and now I'm going to look for WiFi spots when I travel to help reduce the load. I just might be able to leave the house without the notebook next time.

Thanks for the feedback!

I guess this device is still a bit too new. Some stuff I've read says the wireless range isn't too far. Most of my use would be at home (when away from the computer at work), but I would be limited when not at home.

I know that there is no wireless to many places I travel, so I would have to use a modem to connect. At $500 for the Palm, and another $100 for the modem, plus another $100 or so for airplane charger/case/etc, I would be in the price range of a low-end laptop.

Another thing I'm looking at is the new Kyocera cell phone, which has a color Palm built in. It runs $500 also, but would require external modem or bluetooth to connect while on the road.

I tried today and was unable to get VersaMail to work with Outlook. The problem is the T|C expects a POP3/SMTP server to connect to and we use only Exchange.

If anyone knows how to overcome this I'm all hears (and eyes).

Thanks,

Judging from the number of views to this post, there is lots of interest in connecting to an Exchange server, but apprently nobody has done it or had success

I should have followed up sooner.

I am doing it. It was a couple of Exchange server settings I needed. I learned we are also using IMAP and for the POP3/SMTP settings had mappings I could use.

So now I can get my e-mail through my wireless connection.

Thanks,

Thanks

I cannot access our Exchange server with POP3/SMTP or IMAP.

Is that the only way you could get the T/C to work?

From my experience, yes.

I can understand POP3/SMTP, but what about IMAP? What is the issue there. If the Exchange Server is configured for IMAP we can get the rest done. :)

I wish there were better instructions on setting VersaMail up. As it is, the user is left to their own devices to configure it and Palm Support was not very supportive.

Their first response seemed geared to the old e-mail client and not VersaMail though in my e-mail I specifically stated Tungsten C and VersaMail. *sigh*

No, our exchange server cannot be accessed using IMAP or POP3.

I'd hate to fork over $500 for something that I could only sync outlook e-mail thru the cradle.

The only other option I have would be to forward my Outlook mail to a POP3 account, but then my "reply" address would be from my POP address, not my Exchange address.

I'm still looking at syncing using a cell phone and cable. Have seen some posts that it seems to work.

I dislike the fact we are on our own in configuring Versamail. There is not good information nor is there good customer support.

I agree about paying $500, especially for a business related function. :|

Good luck in getting your Exchange server to sync with your system.

Take care,

If you have a POP3 and SMTP account (or IMAP enabled acct) then setting up VersaMail is pretty easy. It is the same settings you use in Outlook Express in the Account info page.
