Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : going from Palm to iPaq
Ok, I have been using a Palm IIIxe for a couple years. I was fortunate to have work give the ok for me to purchase a new pda. I opted for the iPAQ 3955. A little nervous about my decision to leave the Palm world for the pocket PC.
Does anyone know how to transfer the data from my palm to my pocket pc? I hate to lose all the history in my datebook as well as just retyping all the info in my Palm. Is there an easy unconvoluted way to do this? Thanks!

I don't know if this is easy or unconvoluted, but this may give you some ideas;
http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/club/stepbystep/palm2pocketpc.asp
I had tried this last night, unfortunately it must be a dated article because Excite has changed their website. So it doesn't appear to work anymore.
Suppose the upside of not being able to transfer the data is I will become a whiz real quick at inputting info into the PPC.
Thanks

There is one app out there that might do the job. It's called Peacemaker and i know it works for PPC. Not sure about PPC2002 though. Here's the link:

Oh, and dear Amy.....Welcome to the PPC world. It's time to leave all that junk behind you now.

Try Intellisync for Yahoo instead, I think the idea from that article is still applied.

I've been using a Palm since 1996 (currently a Palm M515). I recently got an iPaq. Transfering the data from the main four apps (datebook, phonebook, to do list and memo) was simple. I was already using IntelliSync (www.pumatech.com) to sync the Palm to Lotus Organizer. I simply went into the settings and pointed IntelliSync to Outlook (after installing it from my setup disk). I then told IntelliSync that I wanted the info to go from the Palm to Outlook (in essence overwriting Outlook since there was no info in Outlook). This took a while as I have four years of calander and a lot of addresses. But it worked fine and when it was finished ActiveSync put it over onto the iPaq. I then changed the IntelliSync settings back to synchronize. I'm actually still using both devices and synching to Outlook w/ no problems.
This also works with Pocket Mirror from Chappura. I moved a friend's data using PM. Again with no problems.
Hope this helps.
I'll look into all these suggestions. Hopefully I won't run into too many walls. Otherwise I'll end up wondering why I left my familiar Palm turf. The iPAQ really did blow the doors off the palm's so I'm optimistic that my frustration will be limited.
Thanks again for the help.

Come on Guys and Dolls....I think there's a soul that needs to be saved. Let's not allow Amy to go back onto the dark side of (really) low resolution displays of Palm and other low-life things that are surrounding this creature.
Amy - I believe pacemaker is included with 3900 series. If not then for sure the OBEX standard based program will accept items from your Palm.

Here's another easy way:
If you are using the Palm Desktop make sure your data is synced.
Install Outlook
Install Pocket Mirror. It is on the Palm CD. It syncs with Outlook.
Sync the Palm with Outlook.
Uninstall PM.
Install Activesync.
Sync the Ipaq.
Viola!
Looks like I have alot of options. I appreciate all the input. I ordered this thing from CompUSA 10 days ago and I still haven't gotten it! I'm anxious for it to arrrive so I can dismiss all my worries and concerns for not purchasing the Sony CLIE.
Mason, your mention of Pocket Mirror sounds simple. I've never used Pocket Mirror. Hopefully it originally came with my Palm IIIxe. I'll check it out tonight.
I'm also looking into this Peacemaker software that supposedly comes with my 3950. Looks like it's more geared to beaming to a Palm than accepting information from a Palm. If it could be as easy as simply beaming from my Palm to my iPAQ I'll be thrilled! I've been using Datebook 4 on my Palm instead of the miserable datebook that came standard with my Palm. Hopefully that won't end up screwing me.
Thanks for all the help. Between all these proposed solutions one of them is bound to work. Right?

Greetings;
I went from a 3xe to a 3635 a while ago and I basically did what mason hatcher outlined in his posting above and have had no problems. I have even transfered the wife from a M100 to a 3650 and had no problem. We were both using outlook, pocket mirror and really had no problems.
As for the Pocket Mirror program it should be with your original disk from Palm. If you are using Outlook and your 3xe at this time you are more than likely using pocket mirror.

Hey Amy,
the word is officially out that Peacemaker is not compatible with the Ipaq 3900 but you have alot of other terrific options mentioned previously -
I just went from the IIIc to a 3955. What a difference, Palm has been running virtually the same OS for 4 or 5 years. Sure a few upgrades, but nothing groundbreaking. I have used ACT 2000 as my database manager and recently began using Outlook 2002. During that time, I always used "companionlink" as my sync tool. Site www.companionlink.com. The best sync tool I found out there. The only program which would transfer notes between the PDA and ACT 2000. Tried averything else. Anyway, I used that to transfer over 1100 contacts to Outlook XP, and it was flawless. Am very impressed with the MS Active Sync, it has handled all of my transfers well. Would have no need for CL software now, but is still a great program.

Hey Amy
I just got a 3835 and had the same anxieties you did about getting from Palm to Pocket PC. Surfed a few forums and decided to go with the Pocket mirror solution. On one forum, detailed instructions were given which really helped me out--here they are and I followed them to the letter:
Installed the Pocket Mirror software that came with my Palm from Chapura software (www.chapura.com). If you explore the Palm Installation CD (exit out of the installation screen that autoplays when the CD is inserted and go to "my computer" and right click on the CD-ROM drive and select explore) in the directory X:/palmsfw/disk1/Pocket Mirror (when X is letter of your CD drive). Double click on Setup
Downloaded the latest update from the Chapura website. Person who suggested this said step may not be needed but that he didn't try doing it without the update; so I didn't either.
Synced my Palm (the Chapura software will now Sync your Palm date to your Palm)
Installed OUtlook 2002 from the CD included with my 3835
Completed instructions on the CD.
Uninstalled Pocket Mirror.
So far everything seems to be working perfectly. Hope all goes equally well for you!

Check out my post below for a link to some microsoft information.
I used pocketmirror, and it worked beautifully! All my addresses and my calendar agendas were synced.
I only ran into a couple problems. Some of my notes in my address fields didn't get transferred and my memos in my Palm didn't get transferred at all. No big deal I can recreate all that in very little time.
Now that I've used the PPC for a few days I am very impressed. Can't BELIEVE I stuck with my Palm for so long! I guess this is one of those situations where your happy as a clam until you see what else is out there.
Thanks again, I really appreciate all the help you have given me.
