Hi I'm deciding to upgrade my old trusty Palm Vx to either a Zire 71 or a TG50

Right now I'm in favour for the 71.

I have 2 questions about the new Zire 71.

1. I know that the 71 accepts both SD and MMC and that SD is superior than MMC. However MMC are much cheaper. Question is that can i use MMC's instead? would it be ok for sayt MP3's and Videos? And what's the biggest SD/MMc available

2. Does the enhanced sound for Bejeweled play on the Zire 71? (I know it does on the TT and Clie).

Sorry if these questions have been asked before.

Thanks in advance!:

I can tell you that the enhanced sound for Bejeweled does work on Zire 71. As far as the cards, I use SD cards, just because...

slpalm you may want to look at online retailers such as ecost among others, I got my sandisk cruzer and 256mb sd card for 72 total which is what 128mb card would cost in a brick and mortar store

SD is supposed to have faster read/write times.

I've found the SD prices about the same as MMC.

At PricingCentral (http://pricingcentral.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=152&sortby=priceA&vendors%5B%5D=0&popup1%5B%5D=0&popup1_attr_id%5B%5D=105&popup2%5B%5D=0&lo_p=0&hi_p=0&form_keyword=&ut=d1f534faf2b8794f) they show that a 128MB sd is $47 and a MMC is $46. If you buy Simpletech SD card you get $10 rebate (so it's really $37).

So price really shouldn't drive your decision.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I did some research and it looks like SD are now almost the same price as MMC? So why would anyone go for MMC? I don't know.

As for the sound. I believe if a game or app supports the Tungsten T's sound capabilities then it sould also work for the 71 as it is using a similar processor.

Question:

Does the Zire 71 recognize a SD Card beyond 128mb memory? For example 256mb and so on. CostCo has SanDisk 256mb SD Cards for $60!

- MZ There was a bug in older PalmOS that kept one at or below 128MB on expansion cards. But this was fixed long ago.

So my guess (I don't have access to Z71) is that it will work. YMMV

...based on your posting, my dear sweet mother and I went to that Point Isabel Costco and each procured a 256MB SD card. She, for her Zire71 and me, for my GF's Zire71.

$66.00 + 256MB's = not too shabby. My mummy also bought one online, and after having jumped through many hoops and obstacle courses, it came out to, like, $55.00. $66.00 is not bad when you want the card in your hand right now.

P.S. Thank Goodness for the Zire71. Both my girls have one, to their eternal happiness.

Them happy = me happy,
