Hi guys , I really need ur objective opinion on whether I should get m515 or t665. I know that 665 has a better screen but i heard m515 feels 'better built'.
I'll be using it mainly for ebooks,PIM, however if I can actually watch friends on t665, it would definately be my choice.
Pls advice if you have the time.
Thanks alot!
Scott

Personally, I use the M515 -- probably primarily because of a greater degree of comfort with staying with the industry leader. Watching movies and/or TV shows is not something I would even contemplate on a PDA -- but that's me. For PIM, ebooks, some word processing, some spreadsheets, etc., it works very nicely. I also like the expandability options with keyboards, GPS, presentation adapters, etc.

The higher resolution screen of the Sony is nice in that you can get more info on the screen. You can double (approximately) the number of words on the screen from an ebook -- and this is obviously nice.

My own suggestion is that you "play around" with both of them, and think very critically about all of the different things that you might want to do with the PDA. If some expansion options are more important, then probably go with Palm. If you can't envision that (word processing, using a GPS, etc) as something you'd ever want to do on a PDA, then seriously consider the Sony.

I'd also factor in whether or not there are some corporate standards that you would be best off if you observed -- even if these are unofficial. Having friends in the office who are using the same or comparable units can be very helpful when things go wrong -- like a cradle ceasing to function!

Thank you for those kind words; I try to be objective, even though I am certain that I fail all too often.

If I was you, I'd go with the 665. It has a faster processor, higher resolution display, and mp3 player!! The M15 has none of those!!

I think that these types of choices can be broken down into three areas of concern:
1) The emotional response to the look and feel of the unit. And of course there is some emotion tied to the Brand.
2) The use you will put the unit to.
3) The durability and support, especially if you intend to keep the device for a while.
As you can see to a great extent these issues are subjective in nature. It is difficult for any of us to give you more than our on opinions. In my opinion the Palm 515 wins the "look and feel" category; I like simple and understated. As to use, I personally find the 515 screen with fewer pixels easier to read; I like bigger fonts not smaller. And in the support category the SONY owners that contact me say that they are not pleased with SONY support. Don't get me wrong I also hear from Palm owner with the same complaint. Its just I hear it from more SONY folks.

Back to the beginning: you need to make your decision based on your personal responses.

Think about battery life, too. The m515 goes at least 6 hours on a charge. The T-665 approx half that, but you get twice the visual enjoyment. If you are near a charger all the time, go with the 665.

Think about the warranty. Palm 12 months, Sony 3 months. Ditto DrMud on Customer Support.

As usual John you have a nice fresh bit of tech knowledge to share. I was not aware of the battery life issue.
SONY has been moving too fast to get out new product. None of the units regardless of the bright ideas it contains has a real sense that every aspect was well considered before the product came to market. Has a SONY handheld ever been sold by SONY for more than 6 months? One of my pet peeves; SONY cannot seem to make application buttons that enjoy human contact.

PS: I own a bunch of SONY electronics but not one of their handhelds.

Thanks, DrMud. I only talk about what I know.

Like you, my entertainment center is slowly filling up with Sony products. So far so good. I'm glad the remotes don't have microscopic buttons like the T665.

If you're looking for faster, better screen, etc., get a clie. But, if you plan on using this simply for reading, calender, etc., you may want an m515. They are both nice units. Personally, I think that the speed, resolution, and mp3 ability draw me to sony, but if you don't need the mp3 or fast processing, get a m515.

We could probably start a really long thread over what constitutes a "better Screen." In addition to the density of pixels there would need to be conversation on issues of color accuracy, color saturation, surface durability and feel.
But lets not.

Point taken, I suppose I just meant pixel-wise. Then again, I don't really even know much about density and saturation and such. As usual, drmud has more to add, always a good sport:D
