What can Compact flash do?

I'm looking at getting a pda and the Toshiba e310 seems perfect for my needs. It gets rave reviews but each time they mention that its one limitation is the lack of compact flash slot/support.

What do I actually lose by not having compact flash?

Compact flash slots allow you to add to the memory. judging by the reviews the memory is probably used up fast on the one you were looking at, so it would be usefull to have a expansion slot.
