I use my windows media player allot. I generally will do an
"alt+Calenderhotkey" to shut down the display allowing the music to
play. Doing a registry hack I use the "+" and "-" buttons for advancing
and replay on the front of the device. The problem is after I advance
the songs using the + or - buttons on the front of the 720 the display
is now activated and is consuming too much power. I wonder if there is a
way to keep the unit in the same sleep mode while I advance the songs
unless I were to open up the unit and physically depress and key on the
keyboard?

Hi, James,

My guess is that any key activity will always activate the J from alt-cal, since any failure of it could cause a huge lock-up.

If you look at Raul Lucky's site (http://www.geocities.com/roosterlucky/jornada720.htm), in his Tip section, he shows a registry hack for modifying the outside key buttons, and that will at least point you in the right direction in your registry.

One thing: have you tried GSPlayer? (http://midori01.tripod.co.jp/index2.htm) It's a free mp3 player, much less resource-hungry than WMP, with infinite sound settings. The only rub is that the setting are in Japanese; that, and you'll need a *.lzh file extractor.

But you can sort of feel your way around in GSPlayer, make playlists, etc., and its external keys are programed to skip tracks, not change volume, which is what I want in an mp3 player.

But using its external keys will also wake up the 720 from alt-cal.

Good luck,
Jake
