How do you run a program that has been placed in a memory stick? When I copy a program or its files to the memeory stick I can't run the program. I have tryed whats in the manual which is very little, but still no-can-do.

I've found that the memory sticks are best for data files..mp3s, pics, docs, etc. I haven't found a way to launch apps from the memory sticks directly. I have to use memory gate to move it to internal and then run it from there. I'd be interested in the answer to this problem.

To run programs from your memory stick, put them into the Launcher folder.
You then need to have one of the 'enhancement' programs installed that serves as your PDA front end -- such as Silver Screen, Launcher III, etc. These programs have a lot of benefits, anyway, such as letting you group programs into tabbed items. My personal favorite is MegaLauncher, but to each his own.
Once you have the software installed, you will get full access to any program in the memory stick's Launcher folder. It will appear with a small dot next to it, which signifies that it isn't on the PDA itself.
You'll still want to keep any small files associated with that program on your PDA. Not the actual data files, but, as an example, the small file that HandStory maintains to restore any document to the place where you left it.
That's really it. I run almost all of my programs from a memory stick, which leaves me a lot of memory in my PDA. As a matter of good practice, you should try to keep at least 1mg of free space on your PDA.
If you need more info, just drop me a line.

Your memory stick may need to be formatted. Be sure you format it in the clie, with the clie format function. Then, with the clie in the cradle start the export-import function. The clie will become a harddisk in Windows Explorer. Look and see if there isn't a Launcher folder.

Maybe I am just being redundant, giving the other replies..but I just moved my files around and took off, oh, about 7 MB (!) off my Clie'.
Basically, you need to put the database file ("db") in the LAUNCHER folder on your MS, and either the .prc or "app" associated with THAT particular program on the PDA itself, which puts the icon on the PDA desktop.
So, when you click on the icon, it searces the LAUNCHER folder on the MS, and there ya go.
BUT, as said, you need to have launcher III, which is freeware.
This is made much easier with a card reader. I have the Imation one, and it runs as soon as a MS is placed in it.
I use my Clie' for medical reference (a TON), and this is the process used to effectively run the "Five minute clinical consult" series.

These medical programs can be found @ many locales. One is LWW.com, or @ handheldmed.com.
In the medical community, many friends also 'share their ware...'
Good luck.
P.S. If you want more links, let me know, as I have cataloged dozens.
The launcher can be found @ http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/launcheriii.shtml

It is not absolutely necessary to install custom launcher software to run programs from a Memory Stick. I concur with the advice from responders above, custom launchers have better interfaces and utility that the bare-bones launcher you get with Sony.
However, to run programs directly from a memory stick:
1. Use MSGATE to move programs from internal to stick memory. Or, install program(s) in the memory stick and insert the memory stick in the PDA. Be sure that you install the programs in the /PALM/Launcher directory.
2. Go to the launcher (HOME) screen and hit the pull-down menu. The last item in the menu is the memory stick. It has a small memory stick icon and the name of the stick if you gave it one; hit that.
3. Item 2 above will take you to a second launcher screen showing icon(s) for the program(s) you installed on the Memory Stick. Hit it/them to run the programs.
4. To return to the programs in the body, hit the menu, the category you want, and you will flip to the main launcher. Use this method to alternate between locations for program launching.
It is a little cumbersome, but it works. Another drawback is you can not categorize programs on the Memory Stick.

Thanks for the info. I've been using third-party front ends that I assumed they were necessary (they may be on the Visor I was using). Like you said, though, you probably wouldn't be satisfied with the "bare bones" launcher.
