Ipaq 3870

Hello again. I am still hoping that someone can help this new user tucked away here in New Zealand.
Any help on these questions would be greatly appreciated.

1. I have an Ipaq 3870 with CF expansion plus unit running CE 3.0. I bought an original Compaq compactflash 56k modem on ebay, it doesn't appear to dial the number that I have set up in my new connection. The compactflash appears as a modem in the choices - do I need to download a driver also to get it to dial?

2. How do you get rid of the +0 that appears on the dial screen if you omit your country and area code?

3. Is there a way to test your modem with the CE windows system?

Pls help, otherwise the Ipaq is only half as good as I need.

I think, you go to settings, Connections Dialing locations, and then to the dialing patterns tab.

Then if you set each of the 3 boxes to read fg and then click OK, it should only dial the area code and number for any call type. You can reset them to efg if it doesn't work.

I have tried that...no good.
I have tried a CF with modem and a PCMIA sleeve with modem. Neither ring out.

I have triple checked the settings still nothing. Anything else to try??

He maintains that sight, or so the "About the Author" says in his (above) book.
