I've just purchased a T415 and love it.... it replaced my very old Uniden UniPro so this is light years ahead.
But I purchased some NuShield screen protectors and they are junk! Can anyone recommend a good protector?
Thanxs,
Mike

Go to www.freescreenprotectors.com for "free" CompanionLink screen protectors. They are reasonably clear. They are not resistant to scratching and have a slightly soft and sticky feel (like vinyl). A package of 10 is free, but shipping is $7.
For really clear and really cheap, make your own using inkjet window decals from Staples, etc. The surface is much harder than the CompanionLink, and has a paper-like texture. Unfortunately, drops of water make white spots on it. $12 gets you 5 sheets 8.5" x 11".
I heard that Brando screen protectors are fantastic. Sounds like they are made from the same material as the window decals, but without the water soluble coating. They are very tough and very smooth. They are about $9 each!
You get what you pay for.

I have tried just about all of the breed and always end up poorer for the purchase and I never leave one on my palm for more than a few days. They are never as clear and bright as I desire and I never get them on without bubbles that annoy me. I use my palm more then four hours a day and I do not want a compromise.
The only brand I came close to liking was Fellows. They have a new one for the color screens that reduces the light on slightly.

Dr. Mud,
Have you tried the Brando? Sounds really good, but they are too expensive for me to experiment with.
To me the point of a PDA is to be mobile, while being low cost.

I agree with you John. The major impetus for PDA ownership is convenience; have it with you when and where you need it.
I have seen the Brando protector adds and they sound good, especially not requiring the tedious task of sticking them to the screen. All things considered what ever you add to the screen adds to the light loss. I have a couple of scratches on the 515 due to sand on my stylus. A problem in Florida. Never had it before. My Palm Vx which had more then 2.5 years of use without a screen protector had only a few very light scratches from a 3 way pen, pencil and stylus. It took a couple of days before I noticed the stylus was too hard and too sharp. I now use one of the Cross Duo writers that has a replaceable stylus tip. It works great for me as I carry a pen in my pocket at all times anyway.

The screen protectors of Brando are the absolute best! Removable, washable, and they really last a LONG time. Have been using mine since I got my S300 almost two years ago!!
Definitely worth the investment (hey, its a lot cheaper than having to replace a screen).

I have been using the screen protectors from pdascreenprotectors.com. They are alittle expensive but they last a very long time. They are clear and bright almost like not having one on your pda at all. I have used a number of other screen protectors but this one has been the best.

DrMud -
A few of your comments sound very familiar to me. I had a Vx for two years and never used a screen protector and yet only had a few VERY minor scratches. Upgraded to the M515 and had a couple within a week so despite my reservations, I had to start trying screen protectors. I started with the Fellows Writerights but was disapppointed by the bubbles and also by the deterioration in the color. After reading a lot of reviews and user comments, I ended up trying the G2 screen protectors at www.pdascreenprotectors.com All I can say is that these are faboulous. Incredibly clear to the point that you won't even know their on the unit. No bubbles since they are non-adhesive and instead slip under the edges of the screen. They are incredibly durable and while they are $14 for two, two should last you at least a year making them very economical. Also John Salazar at pdascreenprotectors.com is very good about customer service should you need him. I highly recommend you check their site and read some of the reviews, most notably "the gadgeteer".
By the way, I too use the cross duo and replacement tip styluses and find them to be superb.
Hope this helps!

I've been using a screen protector called ClearTouch. It's the best screen protector I've used so far. I like it because it was easy to apply and air bubbles didn't show up as with others I've used in the past... if there's one thing that I hated about screen protectors was the air bubbles. I was impressed with this one. After it's been applied you can't even tell that it's there and NO air bubbles! :)

From what I've been reading it sounds a lot like what's been popular with others.
Hope this helps.

Although John at www.pdascreenprotectors.com has a good reputation for excellent customer service, I must admit I got my G2 from a friend. Sorry John. I will BUY some for my next PDA :-)
What I can say is that the G2 is the best screen protector I have ever seen and used. I have tried all the big names like WriteRights, Brando, Nushiels and Companionlink.
The G2 is smooth and clear as glass. Its been over my screen about 4 months now and looks like the day I put it on! I love to show it off and people have a hard time telling I have anything on my screen.
dwhoward is absolutely correct!

If you want a cheap easy solution, try the Palm m5xx screen protectors. What I like is that they're available everywhere and pretty cheap too. I got a 12 pack of Micro Writeguards for about $10 - I liked these much better than Write Rights.
The m5xx are curved at the bottom, so on the T-series, there will be a little section that sticks up at the bottom. But this provides a nice pull tab when removing the screen protector so you won't scratch the screen trying to use a fingernail to pry off the old one! :) The sides are a little narrower than the T-series measured metal edge to metal edge. But they're wide enough to cover the actual display of the T-series.

Don't laugh-
I buy these dog treats that come in the clear plastic bag. Then cut the plastic to fit and it sticks like magic and it works really well. It is the soft plastic that is like those static decals that stick to glass without glue. Just look in the dog treat section of your supermarket and you'll see what I mean.
Then you'll need a dog to give the treats to..... :p :p :p

I heard that NuShield changed its film in September and got a bad batch. I bought NuShield films last month and they are perfect. They are clear, unlike the milky films before, and they are much thinner than the G2 which is a bear to get under the case.
For my money, NuShield is worth the price. If you buy a $300 or more expensive PDA, you should spend a couple of dollars to protect it.

pdamaniac:
If you are a legitimate user, why did you post into 4 different threads within 14 minutes?
In the "Tungsten Handhelds & Software - NuShield offers Screen Protector for Tungsten" thread, you said:
I was visiting the NuShield site and saw that they have a screen protector for the Tungsten. My experience with the NuShield film has been very positive and thought you folks would like the heads up. The website is www.nushield.com
In the "CLIE N & NR Series - Nushield's" thread, you said:
After trying many brands, I came to the decision that the adhesive ones just didn't cut it. I hate the air bubble problem and no matter how careful I am, I still get some. Then I tried the G2 and I could not fit the film between the case and the screen. It is very hard and thick. I had to send it back for a refund. My last resort was the NuShield brand. I was a little leary after reading some reviews, but after it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.

And in the "Handera/TRG Handhelds - NuShield Screen Protector for HandEra 330" thread you said:
Just want to let everyone know that NuShield now offers a non-adhesive, crystal clear screen protector for the 330. Check out NuShield at nushield.com
Either you own these 4 different PDAs, and you just bought nushields for all at the same time, and felt compelled to tell the world, or you work for Nushields.
In 2 of these posts, you attack the G2. Is the G2 hurting your business so much that you have to fabricate testimonials?
I find these posts very suspicious, and question your integrity, both as an individual, and as a company.

Ouch! That must have hurt.
But looking at the quoted evidence, it's hard not to think that you are taking advantage of this forum to market your products.
Sure it's okay, and if your products are truly superior, then your testimony will be beneficial to all.
But your credibility is now being questioned because of the manner in which you have presented these various stories which seem so unreal, coming from your experience. You may be doing more harm than good to the reputation of the company that made the product.
In my country, we have a saying, "Magpakatotoo ka!" (pronounced Mag-pa-ka-to-to-o ka!). The best translation I can give is "Be truthful."

My curiosity got the best of me, and it only gets worse!
pdamaniac has posted 4 times here in the PDA Street forums to ADVERTISE his nushield protectors by masquerading as a regular user.
But that's nothing compared to the 16 posts he has in the Brighthand forums...

...every post is about nushield or the virtue of non-adhesive protectors (except 2 for Klear Screen, also sold by nushield).
I wonder how many other forums have his fake testimonials?
I regularly visit forums to see what USERS think about different things. The last thing I need is a manufacturer posting phony testimonials and bashing their competition under the guise of a regular user! This undermines the whole point of discussion forums.
I personally stay away from any company using deception and manipulation to gain my business.

Hey
I have tried Brando too. And I LOVE THEM! Washable, reusable, no bubbles!
I have also found a similar product at a MUCH CHEAPER price. Linky: http://www.newtonelectronics.com/pdascreenprotectors.htm
16 for $10. Talk about cheap!

lol @ those marketing guys. I need a good screen protector badly. my 2 months old clie has already several scratches.
I saw this on another post somewhere and tried it out, and you know, it really works. Go to any Wal-Mart arts & crafts dept, they sell clear vinyl by the foot. Get the thinnest one (they have several thicknesses to choose from). I bought a 2 foot by 4 foot piece for well under $2. Then make a template for your size pda screen using plastic or heavy card stock and use the template to cut a screen protector from the vinyl using a very sharp modeling knife. The material is crystal clear and sticks wonderfully. The biggest challenge is placing it on with no bubbles though, it takes practice. And make sure to thoroughly clean the screen and the vinyl before mating them. I have one on my 615C for several months now and its great. And you can't beat the price.

Nice heads up realguy. I really hate those marketers because they only gain support through innocent and susceptable people like us. I would never buy from a company that uses such tacktics.
On another note, has anybody tried comparing Brando to ClearGuard? Are they really similar in your opinion? From my experiences they are almost the same. Both are washable and reuseable. The only main difference is that Clearguard usues static cling where as brando uses some sort of waterproof glue.
Your thoughts are welcomed.
Axim Man.
ps. Clie users: please do not be offended by my id name. I am a possible switcher. :-)
I got the Belkin PDA Screen Overlays for Sony Clie T Series, from Fry's for $16.99 (a pack of 12). They are pretty good, and I am used to them now. No bubbles or artifacts. Having a screen cover can NEVER make the screen as clear as not having one, and you notice this first when you place the cover - - but you get used to it, and don't notice the cover any more.
It's a great idea to have a screen cover, if you want your PDA to last. My last PDA was a Palm and it had scratches all over its screen.
I dont know if Belkin's the best, but it was available when I needed it, and those available on the net were about the same price or more (after shipping).
Good luck guys.

I recently purchased the G2's, they are super clear (can't even tell they are on) and seem to be durable thus far. I use them on my 665 and my wifes 615..
