i'm using launcherX, & since installing the combo patch i seem to have 2 native palm launcher apps which show up in launcher x with the name applications & an arrow icon.

one of them, i believe the original has no icon & is 90kb, the other does have an icon & is 97kb.

both bring me back to the native palm launcher screen, which one do i delete? or do i need both.

The error message "LauncherMain.c, Line:9128, could not complete the operation because the system is out of dynamic memory" has been fixed.

does the new combo patch include a new launcher application aswell, that would explain why i now have two.

"Applications" should be hidden from the launcher by default. Unless there is some option to show hidden items. I'm sorry I can't help you any more than this since I don't use LauncherX :)

I use LauncherX and added the update. I see the icon as well. I have a tab called 'Unused/Hide'. I unhid the tab (using the 'Tools' gadget (the hammer & wrench icon), put the 'Application' icon there then I hid the tab again.

That's how/why I hide stuff that my palm needs but that I do not need to see.

I just deleted the 'Applications' icon...no problem (I just deleted the Application, not the Preferences or Associated DBs in RAM...just to be safe).

Which one did you delete? The one WITH the icon, or the one WITHOUT the icon?

I had the same thing happen when I installed the combo patch. I dragged the one without the icon to the trash can in the toolbar & it disappeared. I've had no problems since then.

yes the one without the icon seems to be the old one (90kb).

i'm not so sure if it's safe to delete though, i took a look at them in teal files & the new one seems to be stored in ram, whereas the old one is stored in the rom, if you ever do a hard reset wont you lose the new launcher since it's stored in ram?

i think this needs a bit more investigating

Andy

actually you can use the info icon in launcherX to check the files, it's easier though with teal tools

is this only a launcherX problem, how about the people using Zlauncher, i suppose if you don't use a 3rd party launcher, you would never notice the extra launcher, (no need for palm to mention it)

I'm not sure that it's okay to delete either of them. I haven't had any problems, but I don't know for sure that the patch was installed correctly.

If I look at the version for applications it seems to be 4.5. But the other native apps, like Datebook, Memopad, ToDo all say 4.5P.

When I looked in my Palm folder on my laptop, the archive folder has the Palm combo patch in it. I don't know if it should be there or not. Typically the archive folder only has things that have been deleted, but since the patch is really separate patches & not one app I'm not sure it works the same.

Kasia,

my new applications version (the one with the icon) is 4.5.1P

my old one was showing 4.5, now for some reason it's showing version 2.

i think it's best just to put the old one in a hidden folder & forget about it, it only takes up 90kb & if we didn't use a 3rd party launcher, we would never have known the difference.

i'm a bit worried about Jemshoe however, if he ever does a hard reset, he might find he has no launcher at all.

Magik,

i read somewhere that the combo patch is not backed up during hotsync & if you do a hard reset you have to reinstall the patch,

that must be true since the new launcher resides in ram instead of rom,

i suppose thats how palm will respond to the problem if people like Jemshoe complain that after doing a hard reset, they have no launcher,

answer - reinstall the patch

Andy

ps. i think it's a must to leave it alone

leedscon,
I managed to trace the combo update file (mentioned above) in my desktop's Palm Backup folder (I use MacOS 9). Size is - coincidently - 676 kB. It won't be listed by FileZ after a HotSync operation, however, but since it resides on my desktop in an "apt" place, it should be transferred to the TT when hotsync'ing after a hard reset, methinks (or maybe I am just wrong .:p ).
After installing the patch for the first time, I was left with THREE native launcher apps - the two "application" ones AND an "AppCentral", which on double-clicking serves the same purpose. My default is LauncherX.
To complicate matters, I ende up w/ different results when trying to delete one or two of them sometimes getting a message (but not always) that the file resided in ROM and couldn't be deleted. Sometimes the remaining one (or two) native launcher apps would prompt a message "localisation files missing" instead of launching from LX. Several hard resets followed by bulk restores from my SD card didn't make things better.
Finally, a hotsync resolved the item - I deleted the icon-less"application" file through FileZ, checking all associated files.
I left the AppCentral file intact, though, just made it invisible. No problems (yet).
BTW, after the last hotsync the "old" digitizer and audio patches had disappeared from the desktop's backup folder, the TTupdate one is the only left...funny.
FYI ;)

I had this same problem and think I fixed it. My problem was when I deleted the Applications icon, I could not get into my Applicatons and then, couldn't get into Launcher. Forced to do a hard reset.

Finally, after a hard reset, I synced it again and of course it put LauncherX back on. I deleted Launcher X, hotsynced, did a hard reset, hotsynced, put the TT patch back on, hotsynced, so now I had a "clean" install without launcher. Then, I put LauncherX back on and it works fine.

Hope this helps.

leeds,

any idea wat's this file for >> PalmPatch.PRC
it's in my backup folder. is it the same file as the PalmTungstenTUpdate_enUS.PRC ? hmmm..
i thought the patch was being backup when we hotsync.

i've one question. how do we if our pda is being install with the patch file ? anyway we could check it ?
