Folks, I'm new to the pocket pc arena and just purchased a dell axim. I have the sd memory card with the system and no instructions on how to save files to that card. Can anyone give me a quick answer on how to store and view files on the sd card.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

I thought that I had a bad SD card and ordered a replacement from Dell for my AXIM 300mhz. The second card worked for a week or so, and now wants to format everytime I reboot the device. I can not read the data from the card anymore. Some applications will not install to the SD card properly either.

Of course Dell Support is... .... .... "Not helpful" <-- proper english for @&%@#.

I just sent two cards back to Sandisk becuase of the same problem. Sandisk gave me no hassle in sending them back and are sending two new cards. If Dell can't help you, contact the maker of the card, there should be some warranty for the card.

I contacted Dell last night and was told that they think this might be a problem with the AXIM itself... they are sending me a new AXIM... I'll post a response to this once I know if it's resolved with the new AXIM...

Previous to this, I bought my AXIM with a 256 meg SD card. The card had a problem so I called Dell, they sent a replacement with little difficulty, but the new card has the same issue. I have not sent the old card back yet, so I'll test both with the new AXIM when it arrives... 2 - 3 business days (or so I was told).

Well, the news is (according to Tech Support) that the Dell Axim does have a problem with the 256 Meg SD card. Of course they might have let me know that any of the five times I called... but whatever... Their solution was to use the CF port... and once they come out with a wireless SD card, I will.

I now have a return shipping authorization number and will be sending them all my Axims and peripherals.

I'm thinking that the Sony Clie' might be a better buy...

I've never had a problem with my 256mg sandisk SD card or my axim 400. I have filled the card with ripped dvd movies such as blackhawk down and misc. MP3 files and have never had a problem with either playback. I received my axim for Christmas and the SD 2 weeks later. Works great!!

Their Tech Support claims problems with the Axim 300 and the 256 MB SD card... I don't have a 400...

Have these cards been Sandisk? Try another brand. There is a documented issue with Sandisk SD cards. I frequent 5 or 6 PDA boards, and this is well known.

I use a Lexar 256 card with no probs.

So, basically, I'm screwed because I've got a Dell 300 and a SanDisk 256? I bought it through Dell, so who should I get in contact with, Dell or SanDisk? Good grief, I love the Axim, this is my only problem, that I can't get music onto the SD card, but I can get it on the Axim. But what is the point if I can't use the whole SD card!?! Argh!

To lowespitt (or anyone else),

I have been wondering how to put movies on my Dell. I have searched the internet, but get answers that assume I know something when I know nothing about this. You mentioned in a forum that you have put ripped DVD's on your Dell SD Card. I know how to rip music from CD's. Is it the same thing? If so,

1) How do you go about ripping movies from DVD's?
2) And then how do you put them on your Dell?
3) Then how do you play them on your Dell? Do you use Windows Media Player or another program?

Sorry for bugging you, but I hope you (or anyone else) can help me. Thanks.
B.J.

Heres the website where I learned how to rip the DVD. it takes awhile and requires complete dedecation to the programs. Usually run thme over nite. Takes probably close to 24hrs to rip a 2hr dvd. Take your time and follow the instructions. IT should work. Has for me.

Actually I have read that the larger Sandisk cards are causing problems in all of the different makes.
