I just upgraded from a Palm 130 to a Zire 71 and love it! I'm not sure what the "normal use" battery life of my Zire 71 is. I had it go COMPLETELY dead on me within 24 hours time and it wasn't under heavy use. Could anyone give me some input on this?
Thanks!

I seem to be facing the same problem too...
It is said that Palm Zire 71 only has 900mA. Sheeesh...i think my only lasted me like 2 days of usage
Any one knows what is the Ampere size of Tungsten T? Cuz my colleague never seem to have problem using it for over a week without charging.

I did some research of past posts on this site. I ran across one that suggested shutting off the " Beam" option (that is alway's on, could be turned on only when needed), and to turn the back light down to low. I tried this, and am on day 2 of 100% battery charge. Can't believe that those two things could suck so much juice from the battery. Hopefully you will have the same success with this that I had.

About the beam thingy?
How do we switch off the bea function?
Thanks?
Go to the system "folder" and open Prefs. In the upper right tap on the drop down menu to get to general settings. You should find it there.

Hi People,
Thot maybe the following email excerpts will help. This is an email response that i got from Palm. It didnt quite work for me though, and i got myself a one-to-one exchange with the retailer. Will inform you guys again later to see if the problem appears in this exchanged set.
"
With regard to your email below, the life of a full battery charge will depend largely on the customer's usage of the Palm Zire 71. For the normal customer using the basic core applications, the charge can last up to about 1 week. For the super user using all the multimedia functions on the Zire 71, such as continuous MP3 playing, the charge can last up to 5 hours.
You may try to perform a HARD-RESET with it still charging on the cradle to eliminate this problem. Before performing the hard reset, which will erase everything in your palm, make sure you do a hotsync to backup all the data in your palm into the computer. After the hard reset do not hotsync back the data to verify whether it is a software or a hardware fault and let it charge for 2-3 hours.
(WARNING!!! Hard reset will erase all your data, Hotsync all your data before proceeding!)
Hard reset - press the power green button and hold on to it. Push and release
the reset hole at the back once. Release the power button after
5 seconds. You should see a screen prompting you whether you want
to erase the data or not. Press the page-up button the front panel to indicate YES.

I recently posted a similar thread. http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=17443. I've ben using my Zire 71 for about three weeks now. So here is my conclusion.
With a full charge (over night approx. 8 hrs.) The Zire only give me about two-three days of battery life. I use a mix of all the applications and multimedia. I love showing my Zire to PEOPLE. This pda is very battery intensive towards multimedia. Using only the pre-loaded software does it no good. Just use the Zire the way you want to and forget about the battery life. Buy a portable charger and download POWER-ON (palmgear.com). This software keeps your Zire from turning on accidentally.
Other than the low battery life. I'll use my Zire 71 to its' FULL POTENTIAL.
