Zire 71: High frequency whine/buzz

I can hear a low volume high frequency whine/buzz from about 12 inches away from my Zire 71. Is this normal? It is much louder than on my Clie T665C. I have to put my ear next to the screen there to hear a whine and the buzz is thankfully missing. Has anyone else experienced this? My option to return PDA runs out tomorrow.

I too have the same buzzing sound with my zire 71. I have had it for two months. lately it has been driving me nuts when I am in a quiet environment. I have written an email to palm support and am waiting for a response.

yeah that is pretty normal for the hi frequency screens some do it some don't and like salmas says bothers ya return it.

I've got the same problem too but with clicking sound. Not always but seldom, happens if I close down too hard after taking photo.

I've send my complaint to PALM. After 4 complaints they replied if it is defect, they will replace it but not with a new one and no warranty for the replacement. Well it seem Asia Pacific Palm are not that consumer minded. :(,

Well, I have heard back from Palm regarding the high pitched noise. I printed of 3 pages of instructions for "troubleshooting" from removing 3rd party software to hardresetting, changing conduits, etc. And...a reminder of the $25.00 fee for telephone technical support should none of these work. After all that, if it is deemed to be a hardware problem, then the fee will be waived. It doesn't say anything about replacing the handheld. My guess is that you would have to send it in and they would probably replace it with a previously owned model.
