Has anyone managed to connect their IPAQs through a normal landline to get online. Sometimes i am right next to a landline, but I end up getting online via my mobile.
Any tips would be much appreciated

The run-of-the-mill modems will allow you to connect to the internet via landline. You need the telephone number and an account of an ISP or remote access server to browse the internet.
could you please recommend some names of modems. how do they connect to the IPAQ
many thanks

You must have a CF of PC sleeve to use a modem with your iPAQ (well, you don't have to, you could go with a serial cable fot the iPAQ which connects, eventually, to an external modem, but let's not go there ...). You have a wide choice of modem devices. Remember, a CF modem can work with a PC sleeve using a CF adapter which usually comes with CF devices, so I'd recommend getting the PC expansion plus sleeve if you don't already have one.
Check out the following sites for modems -- I cannot make a recommendation because I have no experience with external modems on the iPAQ. Use your judgement, moderated by the price, availability, design and features of the modem.
