The Best Buy person said that if the battery goes dead the Onboard Ram(not SD card) will LOSE All data loaded by Owner. (e.g., appointments, additional software like RealOne, memos, pictures etc...)

Has this happened to anyone?

I've been paranoid to let the battery get low so I recharge it everyday! Has anyone learned what indicates a "Low Battery" and if it's safe to wait until then to recharge?

Thanks

With the other rechargable, you had a week or so to charge it after you bottom out the battery before you lose the memory. Of course, if you back it up everyday and it happened to lose all of it memory, you would just be a hotsync away from getting it all back. Lastly, there are a few programs that can back up your files on the SD just it case (backup buddy)

As far as I can recall, BackupBuddy VFS is freeware and available on the BlueNomad website. The registered version allows you to do automatic timed backups. Personally, I prefer CardBackup.

Yes it has happened to me, and yes I lost all the data that I had loaded in. As long as you keep your hot sync data up to date on your computer you can at least recover it that way. Also I learned from this forum that it you turn the "beam" option off, and dim the backlight feature the battery life is greatly extended. Those two steps helped me greatly!

Yes loosing it ALL hapens.

1. due to bad SW loaded.

2. due to PDA waking up in middle of night and SW crash leaving PDA on for several hours (or until battery drains).

3. On some models the battery gets jarred, and disconnected for several hours.

So doing regular backups is important.

At home(work) I do regular hotsync.

On travel I backup to expansion flash, Was very useful when I stupidly loaded a couple of bad hacks before vacation and lost data everyday (but got it back from my flash backups).

As far as battery recharging goes, you should be able to wait until device warns of low battery before needing to worry about charge. But I don't know the Z71 so YMMV.
