I'm a happy new owner of a nice shiny T615C, and got a bunch of questions!

I d/l Filez, and discovered that I seem to have what appear to be temp files that have cropped up. As a longtime 'puter person, of course I know about temp files, but being brand new to Palm OS, I have no idea which files in this OS are essential and which can be safely deleted. Heck, I wasn't even aware that you could even get temp files on one of these things! :) That's assuming they even ARE temp files.

1. Is there a site someplace that might list files that can be safely deleted? What about for all those cryptic abbreviations that show up under type and creator?

2. I am assuming these are temp files. Yes? No? Filez shows the following details:

Names: _PGPS_0, IMVS_PGPS
Type: TEMP
Creators: PSIF, PGPS

3. Other odd file names I can't easily identify:

Names: HHTB0, HHTB01, HLTB0, HLTB01, PGP_CategoryDB_0, PGP_CategoryDB_3, TB!D0, TB!D01
Types: MSDB, SCDB, IMCL
Creators: HHTB, IMVS, TB!D

I fully realize some or all of these files may be essential system or program files, but if they are not, I'd like to dump them if I can.

Thanks!

In the world of the Palm OS there are in truth no Temp files as we know them on 'puters. One handy tool is SyncWizard (palmgear.com). When you use SyncWizard you are able to see all of your files on the PC screen with their associated application icons. It is easier to see the association visually on the PC than by file name or author on the handheld.

Yeah, I'd pretty much thought that too, hence my confusion over the name :)

I will check out that utility, tho, 'cause anything that will help make sense out of the other files will be good. I'm a DOS Dinosaur, and I like having an idea of what the various files on my PDA are for. The others I mentioned I assume are just associated with one app or another, no big deal, but the temps threw me!

Thanks, DrMud!

I think you'll like SyncWizard. Even though it's name is a bit of a misnomer it is a very hady tool that can be used to make complete copies of your files, even the ROM. You can load apps to RAM or the MS without a hotsync. The list of capabilities is long!
