I was just curious. In a week, I am picking my Zire71 up from Circuit City. I live in Guatemala, and am flying in to the US for a competition (DI). Any way, I was just curious how much of the programs I will be able to use without hotsync or installing? Hopefully the MP3 or the digital camera. If I have to hotsync, then maybe I'll bring my laptop, but I really don't want to. Thanks, I am so excited!! :D

If I remember correctly, you can use the camera right out of the box. The mp3 player has to be installed, but you would need a laptop or some other connection to load music onto your SD card anyway.

Not much else is pre-installed, and there isn't a lot of other software bundled with it anyway.

If you download RealOne player for Palm from www.real.com before you leave and put the app on an SD card, along with some mp3 files in a directory called \AUDIO\ at the root of the card (same level as the \PALM\ directory, you should be able to insert your SD card, copy the RealOne files to the PDA, and then use the Z71 for mp3 playback without installing the apps from Hotsync.

Worth a try anyway.

Thanks for the tip! I will find out if it works on the Zire71 on Monday, but a preliminary test worked with a student of mine's Tungsten.
