Is there any way the the z71 would be able to record short videos?? I was wondering if this capability was possible with the z71. It seems like all you would need would be some kind of small program and a SD card that would accomodate the video.

There is an app called Vivid (www.clievideo.com) for the SonyNR70 that converts the still cam into a video cam. I've contacted the vendor to see if they will be producing a version for the Zire as the current version definately DOES NOT work on the Zire.
I'll post any info that I receive.
Thanks for the info. That would be great if they did come out with a program for the Zire71. Keep us posted.

Though not a definative deal killer, the vendor has advised me that the Zire's preview screen refresh rate is something like 5 fps, which will certainly present challenges in making a good video recording app. While it is evident when using the camera, I fould this to be surprising because I used to use a Clie NR70V (which had a 66mhz Dragonball processor) and the preview rate was real time. I am puzzled why the Z71 -- with an ARM processor desinged for multimeia -- would perform worse than a Dragonball. Anyone with any insight on this?

It doesn't sound right, the 5fps I mean. If you go extend the camera, hit Options, then Advanced, you'll see the video moving faster than 5 fps. It's probably because the video is being displayed in a small frame.
If the screen refresh rate is 5 fps and if the camera can capture at a higher rate (I'm guessing), why don't they just display the video at 5fps and record at a higher one? It just seems that there's no video acceleration on the Zire. Maybe the Clié has it.
