I LOVE PDAs, but being a poor student, I think I might just let my Tungsten go. I'm going to university next year. I tried taking notes on my Tungsten in class with the ultra-thin keyboard, but the screen is just a little too small to do this comfortably.
I have a PowerBook G4 that I plan to take to classes and take notes on, and I plan on getting the new Sony Ericsson T610 (T618 in the US I believe) which has good address book and scheduling functions and syncs via Bluetooth to my Mac.
The T610 will cost me a few, so by getting rid of the Tungsten, I could save some money.
Anyone want to stop me from this madness? Better yet, anyone want to buy my Tungsten|T with a 256 MB SD Lexar card, Belkin leather case, and Palm Ultra-Thin keyboard?

I'd like to see $400 for all, or any other reasonable offer.

Why the T610 instead of the Nokia 3650???? The 3650 is an excellent phone and similar price. Also with bluetooth to the mac.

I plan on looking at both... I've been a long-time Nokia user. A couple of things concern me about the 3650:
- The rotary dial. I tend to remember numbers visually, eg. where they are on the keypad. I'm also afraid AIM and MMS would be hard on the dial.
- Size. The T610 is TINY but still has a big screen. I haven't held a 3650 but I've seen pictures of it next to other phones and it looks huge.
- Bluetooth support. iSync doesn't play nice with the 3650 (YET). Also the Nokia 3650 only supports limited BT profiles.
- Style. The T610 is a little more serious looking and a little less swoopy than the 3650, and I just generally like its aesthetics.
I'm still going to look at it, of course :) Nokia phones have been extremely reliable for us.

I agree on many of those points, although I haven't played with the T610 yet.
The rotary-dial isn't bad, and I swear its faster once you learn it, but that's probably just me.
The 3650 is pretty big, but it has a nice feel in the hand. It is very light for its size, though. Also, battery life on mine is phenominal.
I agree with the Bluetooth profiles issue. Which Profile does iSync use? Also, if you have/want a headset, the 3650 only supports "handsfree", instead of "headset".
Style is all opinion, I don't think the 3650 is that bad, but it isn't that good either. It works is about all I can say.
Good luck in your search, and please post with what you find/decide and how you likeit.

Hmm... after doing some more research, some things about the 3650 have really caught my eye...
I'm actually disappointed with the T610 after reading more about it. I've heard a lot about poor battery life and shoddy reception (T68i anyone?) Bah. And the phone only has 2 MB memory and no expansion slot, and the camera is low res, and there are just too many compromises...
I love the 3650 feature-wise. The only thing I'm really worried about is SIZE. Anyone have some comparative pictures? Can you still fit it in your pocket without a huge bulge? I really need to hold one to decide I think....
Rumor has it that iSync is going to be updated by the end of the month to support the 3650... if that's the case the 3650 is going to look mighty tempting...

I love it. it works greeat, even with the hd-w2 headset. The voice dialing is wonderful and I've not had any sync problems with my Mac (running os 10.2.6) nor my T/T.
The dial takes a little time to get used, but my speed is getting up there again. For longer ones, I use the sms feature (with textplus) on the T/T anyway.
It's wearable in your pocket. It feels lighter than the T/T. It's a little longer, but not as wide. And Nokia does have a leather belt case that fits vertically so youu don't even have to worry about it in your pocket.

I have a 32 mb card that I had a spare from my digital camera. I have a few mp3s, an entire episode of The Simsons and Friends and about a good number of apps. It's not enough to drop the T/T because I use too much, but the 3650 is a great phone.

I've used my T|T for taking notes in meetings and it works just fine. I have the Palm Stowaway keyboard which IMHO is much easier to use than the new thin keyboard. I bought one of those and returned it right away. Too difficult to balance and find the home row on. The stowaway is great and full-sized yet folds up and fits in my inside coat pocket. I take it everywhere.
You won't get the look of a laptop being able to see the entire length of information you have typed on one screen, but for taking notes it's a breeze and is nice and quiet. Just transfer it over to your desktop later and you can do anything you want from there. Also very handy to keep these notes filed by class or topic for instant review later anywhere, which you can't do if you don't have your laptop with you. Very easy to add quick notes when discussing the class with other students afterwards as well.
I use WordSmith as my word processor and can do instant formatting right on the tungsten - bold, underline, justify, change fonts etc. Very useful and saves time later when going over the notes. I don't have instant spell check on it and not sure if it will work with it or not. Something to look into.
I am a teacher and if I was going back to school I'd lighten the load and just carry my T|T and keyboard. Have fun!

I don't know how long you've had your T/T, but I have only had mine a few months, and I would have difficulty living without it. Are you using iCal and Address book with it? I find them indispensible. A smooth process that I don't think is matched with other programs. I would never give up my T/T...and I am also a starving student -it's just too portable!
