Are these available for the C? They would make the device a MUST HAVE for me.

I too am VERY interested in this but am too new to PDAs to have any clue about....well most anything. What all would I need to have in order to get AIM working on a Tungsten C? I have the Tung C, just got it today as a present, but what all do I need in order to get online and chat with it?

AIM 1.1 (http://www.freewarepalm.com/communication/aimforpalm.shtml) for Palm. Free and in color. Someone posted a newer BETA over at Brighthand (http://discussion.brighthand.com/palmhandhelds/) under the Tungsten C forum.

MSN Messenger (http://www.ruksun.com/mobile_computing/palm/Products/msn_messengerforce/index.html) is here, but I haven't tried and it might cost $$.

And Verichat (http://www.pdaapps.com/verichat/) is the one I use. It costs money, but it works on ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, and MSN all in one interface.

I've gotten four different messenger services to work without using Verichat. None of them are perfect, though.

It's definitely possible to get msn, aol, icq, and yahoo messenger to work on the T|C.

There's a PalmMSN program that works. It's text only and doesn't have fancy pop-ups, but it works. You need to install MIDP in order for it to work. There's a link to download that also on most of the sites that offer the PalmMSN download.

AOL messenger also works and is a lot 'prettier' but it seems to crash every once in a while. I end up having to do a hard reset, uninstall the application, and reinstall it. I think the problem has to do with exiting the application and losing your net connection without logging out. I haven't been able to isolate the exact cause.

ICQ worked similar to AOL when I tried it. It caused my system to crash also and so uninstalled it. I use this one the least so I didn't bother putting it back.

Yahoo messenger was the trickiest. I installed a WAP browser (simulates a connection from a cell phone). I can't remember which link it was that worked. It's either mm.yahoo.com or wap.yahoo.com . If you use the wap browser to go there, you should be able to log in and use yahoo messenger. It's even more primitive than the MSN program, but it also works. You need to keep refreshing the screen to check for new messages.

you can try QuickIM (http://www.quickim.com). QuickIM offers instant messaging on the MSN network with some unique features such as handling multiple users chat sessions (other users should be invited by the PC user in the current version). QuickIM is an one time fee software, there is no annual fee.

I have AIM for Palm OS v1.2, but it was NOT free (or cheap compared to typical 3rd party Palm software prices). It works quite nicely though -- better on my T|C than it did on my T|2, mostly because of the keyboard and the Wi-Fi.

I'm not sure what the differences are between AIM v1.1 and v1.2, but I will say that I haven't had any lockups or errors using AIM v1.2, so maybe v1.1 is buggy (which would explain the free part).
