On my (Macintosh) laptop I have entered prefixes and nicknames for individual address book entries. When I hotsync to my Palm Vx, these do not go over. Is this a 'feature' of the Palm, or am I missing a setting somewhere?

Thanks

Let me see if I have the picture: on your Mac in the Palm Desktop you have nicknames. Or is this better? You had nicknames in a field in some other software on your Mac and when you transferred that data to Palm Desktop the field you had the nickname in was not mapped to a field in the Desktop. How close am I?

On my palm desktop on the mac laptop, I have an entry where the First name is G, the Last name is Allen, the prefix is Mr and Mrs, and the Nickname is Gary and Diane.

When I sync with the handheld, only the first and last names are transferred. There doesn't seem to be a field present on the handheld for the prefix and nickname. (This is also true of suffix and Division, but I am not concerned about those.)

To see if the info was really there on the handheld - and just wasn't being displayed, I did a sync with my Mac workstation. The prefix and nickname fields are totally empty.

Thanks

The only Palm OS Address Book field that would take some of this responsibility is the Title field but it is insufficient for all you intend. My only other thought only lasted a second when I remembered "Mac." KeyContacts from Chapura is a great product with lots of extra fields but it is for MS Outlook. Sorry.

It seems that the Mac desktop software originated in earlier Claris software and is totally different from Windows. There are quite a number of differences between the two - and thence with the Palm itself - including the two which I noticed.

I can see ways to work around the issue and will pursue those.

Thanks for your help.
