I am using the Series 7 to write OPL programs for the Series 3mx (and Workabout) and was wondering if there is a utility available for transferring files directly between them using IR, rather than having to go to the PC for every change I make.
TIA

Not via IR because the Series 3 implementation doesn't support the necessary protocols to transfer files with your S7.

I have connected a 3c and 5mx using two PsiWin serial cables with a Null Modem Adaptor between. To transfer or manipulate files it is necessary to use a file manager on the Series 3 device, because an ER5 based device cannot see the drives on a remote machine.

You may, however, be able to transfer files between your 3mx and Workabout because the IR port can transfer to compatible machines, normally meaning 3c, 3mx and Siena.

Thanks Mike.

I'll try the cable route, I guess I could probably transfer files using the comms program.

The workabout doesn't actually have an IR port, so I'm using the 3mx as an intermediary, copying the file onto an SSD and putting that in the Workabout. Makes quite a job for transferring when making a few changes: Series 7 -> PC -> Series 3mx -> Workabout!

I had hoped IRSend5 would be the solution, but it appears to only allow IR transfers from SIBO to EPOC, not the other way around. It does claim to make the Series 3 port use the Series 5 protocol though, so perhaps something is possible. I guess it's another little project!

Cheers.

I tried this connection at the weekend and .... it works!! The Series 3mx can see the drives on the 7book in exactly the same way as it can for a PC using PsiWin. Incredible!
It's a pity the 7book can't see the Series 3mx, but I guess you can't have everything.

I could tranfer the OPL files just by copying to the REM:drive. I could then open them in the text editor and select all and copy, and then paste them into the OPL editor on the 7.
I now need a (preferably freeware) program to convert 7 Word files to RTF. Any ideas?

(It does seem strange that the 3 series has more functionality - able to see remote drives, can directly use rtf files - than the Netbook.)

Just an idee. By running XTM on a 7 and installing the 3a emmulator it MIGHT work that the "7" sees the drive of the Serie 3
