I wanted an extra sync cable for my PC at work, and decided to go for the Palm sync charger model # P10884U (with the added cigarette lighter adaptor for car charging). I couldn't find anyone who had it in stock so I bought the Belkin one made for the M500 series (model # F8P3000).

It works, but it keeps popping off the Zire 71...not completely, but enough to make it beep, signaling that it is no longer charging or syncing. And who has time to hold it in place???

Anyone else have this problem? I know I'll have to return it but don't know if I should exchange it or get a refund and go searching for the Palm cable.

thanks,
Nancy

I have the same problem with my Brando retractable USB sync charger. I don't think it is a cable issue as much as it is a port design issue on all of the Palm devices using the universal connector. I do like the retractable cable for travel though.

Hmmm... I wonder, has anyone had a positive experience with the Palm brand USB sync charger on the Zire 71?

The Palm cord is no better. Best recommedation is to possibly put a piece of velcro on the back. This way you can put it on your car's dash or anywhere else you need it. Otherwise if it moves around, you will constatly have it connecting and disconnecting. Only major flaw I have found so far. Good Luck!

Apparently, their "Universal Connector" should be called the "Universal Disconnector!"

It appears that the right side of the connector is not holding. My solution to this is to carry a large rubber band and use it to hold the connector in place. I put the band around the Z71 longways (careful not to put it on top of the power button). When not in use, the rubber band, car adapter and cable go into a ziploc.

Maybe they should include a rubber band and Ziploc with the connector! :D

Good point! I think I'll email them! (Although they did not respond when I asked them if the connector was compatible with the Zire 71)
:)
Fortunately, I don't anticipate using it a lot.
