I have a socket 56 K cf modem for an Axim but the Pocket PC fails to make a connection. Anyone have any ideas why a socket modem wont connect? Is this a socket problem or a Dell problem. It looks like you cannot connect a compact flash modem to a Dell Axim?

Keep trying. I had problems connecting too, but finally got it worked out, at least w/ internet access. There are so many reasons you might be having trouble, maybe first go through all your connection settings , then try connecting and listen in on another extension to make sure your modem is dialing.
Thanks for the response. The modem is trying to connect (can hear the modem tone )but the final connection is never made and it finally times out (generally gives me an error message that there is no modem at the phone number I was dialing and I know there is because the number works fine on my desktop computer). Looks like Dell Axim's have a problem making connections with direct line access (as opposed to wireless). What internet providers will the Dell axim work with?

I had two problems like that. The first was a line speed problem, which was solved when I lowered the rate to 38000Kbps (in one of the connection settings dialog boxes ). The second problem was that I was trying to connect to AOL, which is not compatible with the pocket pc operating system. So the modem would connect, but would drop the connection right away. When I switched to MSN, I was able to connect . However I can only connect using the login format MSN/username. (wont let me login without the MSN prefix) Pretty quirky!!
