How do I set my 5mx so that when I convert a Sheet file to Lotus 123 and sync it to PC ,( and back and forth), the formatting remains, ie the same font, borders, bold, italic.

Many thanks,

Igor

Igor,

What version of 1-2-3 do you have? What version of PsiWin? What version of Windows?

Some of the earlier versions of both 1-2-3 and Psiwin had difficulties with retaining formatting on transfer so knowing the combination you have will give me a clue as to any possible fixes.

Igor,

I'm still a little lost here. Do you have Excel from Microsoft Office 97 or 1-2-3 from Lotus SmartSuite? If it's really 1-2-3, go to Help, about Lotus 1-2-3, and give me the version number.

Jim,

Sorry - its the Lotus (Smartsuite) 1-2-3 97 edition...... is that more help?

Igor,

Yes, it did - I've got it now:).

There are known problems with 1-2-3 from SS97 with keeping formating intact when transfered to the PC. There are two things to try:

1. Upgrade to PsiWin 2.3.3. This fixed some of the translation problems but some of the problems were on the Lotus side so you'll still have some, but not as many, formatting dropouts.

2. Get Lotus SmartSuite Millenium, either 9.5 or 9.6. Lotus fixed the problems with formating not transfering when converting to or from Excel, which in turn fixed the problem when transfering the file from the Psion. You can get SS 9.5 or 9.6 very cheaply on the web - I've seen it as low as $25. Just do a search for "Lotus Discount Software" and you'll find several sites to choose from.

Jim,

Many thanks. Would it be worth upgrading to 2.3.3 anyway - what else would it clear up for me?

Igor,

The main advantage of PsiWin 2.2.3 is that connectivity is more reliable across all platforms and is required for Win2K or WinXP. It also fixed some syncronization bugs that caused syncs to fail for no apparent reason. Assuming that your present PC is going to break at some point, you're going to be forced to get WinXP anyway so upgrading to 2.3.3 now will be one less thing to worry about when that day comes.
