Hi,

I would like to get Clie NR70. The price is right now and I don't need all the extras of Palm OS5.
The screen size the 320x320 is all what I need.

I need to know if the Graffiti space is replaced with a On-Screen-Keyboard to save screen space
Is that true? That would really set apart NR70 from any other Clie or Palm device.

It really matters to me as I used Palm 500 before (with 160x160)and using On-Screen-Keyboard used to take half of the screen.

Thanks

Well, I'm not sure exactly how to do it, but yes, it can be done. There is an extra 160 pixel space that replaces the graffiti area(but is actually a screen extention), which can be used to view large photos/movies or be used as a keyboard, there are many other handy features in the extra 160 pixel extention, it shows what you write as you write it, I think there's a clock, etc.

Yes the NR70 can replace the graffiti space with a virtual keyboard, most of the time.
You only have this option when the application supports high-res. Then you will se a little keyboard symbol below the find button and if you press that you get the keyboard in place of grafitti.
Quite a few applications support high-res but alot do not. So you will have to check on applications that are important to you.
The native apps are high-res.

I'm interested in using only the supplied software for now (such as PIM, Word and Excel). Do they support HiRes?

I really don't understand the HiRes done by Sony and how it works.

In case they don't support HiRes, should I wait for "Palm OS 5" that support 320x320?

I don't like graffiti so I use the software keyboard all the time. On the Graffiti panel there is a small icon on the lower right side. Click on it and the graffiti display is replaced by a nice keyboard. It does not require hi-res mode. It works all the time. The soft keyboard has a row of number keys at the top like a standard keyboard so it is really handy.

Have fun,
John

The software keyboard I'm talking about it the one that replaces the grafitti area and does not take up any of the "normal" display area.
If the ability to use this software keyboard is not related to support of high -res then it must be something else. Since I have some 3rd party programs where it is available and some where it is not. Like:

Is
DateBook5
SilverScreen
PalmReader
(and many others)

NOT
HiNotes
ToDo+
Memo+
Launcher III
(and others)

It depends on what programs you are wanting to use as to if they have the very nice software keyboard or the standard anoying keyboard.

What are the names of the programs you are / want to use? Maybe I could tell you if they do or don't.

Yes, this is the On-Screen-Keyboard that I'm talking about.

For now, I'm planning only to use the supplied software with Clie.

I know that all of them don't support Hi-Res+, so I might as well use the virtual graffiti area as an On-Screen-Keyboard.

I need to know if supplied PIM software (To Do, Address Book, Calendar ..) support Clie Hi-Res (320x320) or not.

Yes the included applications all support the hi-res and thus the virtual keyboard.

So time to buy
