I've just had trouble accessing my, well, access point using my netbook with its Lucent/Orinoco card (Dell 1150). My old access point died, and I have just replaced it. After a certain amount of trial and error, I learned that the problem was that the access point was set to "short preamble" (better performance, apparently), while the netbook wifi will only work with "long preamble." I see no way to set the netbook's wifi settings to short preamble.
Unable to find any reference to this issue anywhere, I thought I would post it! Perhaps it will do someone some good some time...
