Due to a hard drive crash, I've needed to rebuild my system on a clean drive. Since I needed to do that anyway, I decided to install Win XP instead of the win2k I'd been running for quite a while. Now, I can't sync my m505--at some, apparently random, point during the syncing operation, the hotsync manager on my PC freezes.
My Palm is running OS 4.1, and I'm running Palm Desktop 4.1 and Hotsync Manager 4.1 on my PC. I've installed the Outlook conduits that came on the CD with the Palm. I'm using the USB cradle.
When I press the hotsync button on the cradle, the hotsync manager pops up on my PC and begins working. At some point during the process, it freezes--the arrows stop moving, and it changes status in the task manager to "not responding." I can't even effectively end task on it. This has happened during "identifying user", while syncing to Outlook, syncing to Avant Go, and "backing up handheld databases".
I've made sure I'm using the latest USB drivers for my motherboard. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the palm desktop software. When the hotsync is running, the palm appears in the device manager without any problems indicated (no ! or x). I've googled for information on this, but haven't found anything helpful. Don't see anything useful on Palm's support page, other than that XP Pro should be compatible.
Any ideas on this? If necessary, I can go back to win2k, but that's a last resort for me. Thanks for any help!
