I would like to know once I have the software to Mac support I'll be able to use my Clie with no problems. Is it as good as if I'd use my clie on a pc?
I need feedback from anyone that uses Mac and owns a Clie.

Thanks

I have a T615 and an NR70V working on Macs, using MarkSpace's software fix and Mac OS9.2.2. Works great, and markSpace tells me that they will be supporting Palm Desktop 4 shortly.

Most of the useful software can either be extracted off the Sony CD-ROM or it can be downloaded off the Web. Interestingly, software developers who make Sony-specific software (320x320 color resolution, upgraded sound, etc.) make a version in the Mac Stuffit format. As one developer wrote me, just because Sony is stupid about Macs doesn't mean HE has to be stupid about Macs.

The biggest minus is that I had to go out and buy Splash Photo for the Sony because the Sony-provided imaging software is PC only. Oh well.

It's worth the hassle to get that great Sony color and sound, plus the Sony quality.

Interestingly, Sony ihas been s in bed with Apple since the first Mac in 1984, when they made the floppy disk drives. And they are currently working on the secret iPhone project. It's hard to figure why they won't support Macs in the high-end PDA market.

Thanks for your reply.

BTW, is the sofware called missing sync?

I too have a Mac, and have been using an older version of Palm Desktop software to sync with my Clie 615C, however I have been doing that in 9.2

I thought Palm was about to come out with a version for OS X, which would compete with Missing Sync from MarkSpace, so I'm waiting for that to happen.

Otherwise, nearly everything else is fine. It's no problem installing .prc files from the Sony CD. Just open it on the desktop, browse through the folders until you find the software you want.

BTW - anyone know if MacLink Plus can open .exe files? I have Virtual PC but it's an older version.

Yes, Missing Sync from MarkSpace. I believe you get a free copy of Aladdin's HotTime software with it, so it's actually quite a nice package for a reasonable price. (Reasonable if you ignore the fact that Sony shouldn't have put Mac owners to the expense and hassle of fixing something that should never have been broken.)

EXE files are almost exclusively in the domain of PCs. A few EXE files created by Zip can be unstuffed by Stuffit Expander, but those are few and far between. Stuffit has trouble with even simple Zipped EXE files, and of course true executable files won't work on a Mac at all.

I've found that most software developers that post EXE files of their PDA software also post (or have on hand) a .SIT version. Or they can sometimes just e-mail the raw files.

One more trick to HotSync Clies and Macs: If you want to sync Outlook Express 5.0.x, be sure to look in the extras folder and install the Palm conduit. This isn't documented anywhere in either the help pages nor the Microsoft web site, but the nifty "Palm Sync Setup..." menu item won't work until this is done.

And use the latest version of Outlook Express.

Vaya con dios. Sony is of no help if you run into any problems.

I have a Clie 615 and Powerbook running OSX (10.1.5) and Palm Desktop 4.0. The Clie syncs to the Powerbook using the USB cradle that came with it, right out of the box and I have not spent any money on additional software. I have not tried it with OS9.x yet, only because I try to avoid stepping back into 9 unless I absolutely have to.

I think I'm a little unclear. I just bought a MAC with OSX 10.2 and have a Sony t615. Now, I want to use Entourage and I know that entourage is supposed to have the conduits for OSX. So,..., I have to download palm desktop for OSX for the sync software and given the last post, it should all work just fine. Right?

That is, ofcourse, except for iphoto transfers. For that I think I need the missing sync.

Am I correct about what I need to do?

Thanks ahead of time

Geoff

Gselzer,
Yea, as far as my experience can tell, all I have done so far is sync the apps that are just the basics, no photos yet. But I use the Palm desktop from Palm.com and my USB cradle that came with the Clie and press the sync button on the cradle. Just make sure the palm desktop sync manager is set up, OSX did it automatically for me, and put in a user, same as on the Clie. No additional software required for the stock applications.

Gselzer - have you tried the iSync app from Apple? I do not have OSX - 10.2 yet but am thinking about buying it and curious if all the new enhancements are worth spending the money.
thanks

Unless I am mistaken, which I may be, ISync is a series of conduits that allow for special syncing of specific apps or programs to specific devices. I think that it's primary function in the context of PDA's is to sync Apple's address and calender programs. I am using Entourage. I see no indication in the writeup's about it that it helps with Iphoto either.

I never worked with 10.1, but everything I read indicates that 10.2 is better in a lot of ways. Almost every article I have read says it is worth the upgrade.
