Hi, I'm having touble getting my netbook and Belkin F5D6020 PCMCIA WIFI card to work with my (Apple Aiport) Wireless access point linked to AMX-64 ADSL Router).
The compatability chart on www.silvester.org.uk lists the card. The chipset is the prism2.
Having tried all alternatives in the ethernet settings, I cannot get the card to do any more than light up for a few secs. I cloned the lucent settings and have tried various things, but I suspect this is the wrong chipset - I cannot find anything prism-like in the list.
I have tried pinging to no avail.
All other computers (Mac & WIn98) link to the Router through the Apple Airport without any problem and the card works fine.
My (Lowe)netbook has Version 1.05(450) release 158.
I have tried all suggestions I have found on the forums. If I get this sorted, it might help someone else with this Belkin card.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
First thing I would of all, are you certain the card is Prism 2, not 2.5 or 3? I ask since I don't think the Belkin card is very clearly marked as to the chipset version number. Only 2 is supported, and then only because it is a close-enough clone of the Lucent Hermes chipset;'Lucent' is the correct driver choice.
Secondly, are you using WEP? The Lucent driver WEP will not work with Prism 2 cards.

Hi,
Just to make it sure, is your card F5D602, or F5D602 Ver2? I couldn't find any info on how Ver2 looks from the front side, it might just look identical. However, on the back side, it says "ver.2":

And it has Atmel chipset:

Firstly, in answer to the above responses.
No, I haven't set up WEP as the Belkin Cards never seemed to get on with the Airport.
I do have a firewall set up on the router though.
Since I posted, I have checked the Belkin card and it is version1, so I'm p sure it's compatible.
I sense it's the TCP/IP layer - I cannot see the MAC address of the Belkin network card when it's in the netbook from the web-based admin account of the router. I can see the card I'm using when it's in a w98 laptop.
Am I using the right chipset definition? I'm using the lucent/orinoco profile.
Any suggestions?

FCC ID for the version 1 Prism 2 Belkin 802.11b PCMCIA card should be K7SF5D6020.
I used to use one of these Belkin cards OK in my Netbook with the Orinoco drivers. However, one day I 'accidentally' trashed the card by trying to re-flash with some actiontec firmware. So I'm unable to do any further tests.
I can't remember whether NetStatRF works with the Belkin card?? There might be some useful information you can glean from NetStatRF.
I know its an obvious question, but make sure that you have not enabled MAC address filtering on your router (i.e. only communicates with predefined MAC addresses). This has caught me out a couple of times, and also my brother.
Set the WaveLAN network name to <blank>. Netbook should then connect to any wireless network it can see.

:)Thanks Ralph - the Lucent/Orinoco one is the one!
I've been reading another thread just done tonight which suggests trying a static IP addresses for the card. It works!
My Gateway server (the router) is 10.0.0.2 and my subnet 255.255.0.0, both my DNS servers set also to 10.0.0.2. I gave the card an IP number of 10.0.0.7 - to allow for the other computers I have using DHCP.
I'm writing this on the netbook!
Thanks to all in the psionplace forum who helped me.You are really top people!

One further bit of information, the Belkin card works in infrastructure mode OK but will not operate in peer-to-peer (adhoc) mode.
It does support netStatRF when it's working.
