How to remove that horrible peeling rubber coating;(not for the faint-hearted or careless!) get some 3M green abrasive pad (it's the synthetic version of steel wool) You should be able to get this at your local DIY store. It costs about £3.50. Rub the entire surface of your psion with considerable pressure (dont give up, it will come off!, after about 45 minutes of work)) You will need to be very careful around the screen. You will notice light scratching on the surface underneath the rubber, which is a drawback, however if you like you can proceed as follows, (a) polish the psion with household polish, spray polish onto the CLOTH not directly on to the psion, (b) mask off the base of your psion with masking tape and spraypaint the rest, or (c) just leave it alone, as in my opinion light scratching looks better than peeling, bubbling rubber.
I have done (a) and (b),(I have got 2 psions) and each time it worked out really well. Of course you can always get the job professionally done, but this will cost about £63.

Good grief! This sounds like cruel treatment to me! Not a great idea to be applying "considerable pressure" above the screen area, in my opinion, and not for the faint-hearted, that's for sure.

I shall leave well alone and allow my S5 to grow old gracefully. ;)

Or if you are feeling really rich you can go for the reskinning service from Proporta (Previously Palm-Tec....who came up with the new name???).

It costs £63.79 and you have the hugh choice of two colours. Rather than scratching and painting they just replace the actual casing with their own which is constructed to the same Psion standards. Link here

I'm pleased to see that Donal has now modified the post which started this thread, adding some words of caution, and also including wanman's suggestion that a new case can be professionally fitted.

I think the new case is definitely the best option, but if that is too costly, then please do think carefully before attacking your Psion in this manner. We hear enough tales about cracked screens here as it is!

Whilst on this topic, there is another source for the new "skins", offering a wider choice of colours:

£70, but only £35 if you have one fitted at the same time as a service on your Psion.

I've just tried this out, I originally bought my Series 5 second hand and thus it even came with peeling rubber - it might look nice when new but after any use it's pretty nasty - especially when it moults and leaves bits everywhere.

I've now got a brushed plastic Psion, it's an aesthetic improvement as is and at least looks consistent. If £65 isn't an option (and for me isn't - if I'm going to fork out money I may as well break the screen and upgrade to an mx) this does work, all that's needed is due care in the detail areas, and if you're concerned about the screen just brush it lightly and do it over the course of a few hours/days.
