Could someone be kind enough to remind me which is the last netBook-friendly version of plBeam. IIRC the latest version has some bugs in it that cause problems.

IIRC the latest version has some bugs in it that cause problems. MartinG 06-03-2003, 04:21 PM IIRC, v1.0 and v1.1 work fine Si. V1.3 was iffy... Cheers, Martin WolfUK 06-03-2003, 04:52 PM Thanks Martin. Typically I have the trial of 1.3 installed so does anyone have a copy an earlier version that they could send me please (I think I'm right in saying that plBeam uses a registration code so you can send me an unregistered copy). I think that you can get my email address from my profile, if not send me a PM and I'll PM you it back. Many thanks. WolfUK 06-03-2003, 05:06 PM I shouldn't be so lazy ... I've just found version 1.00 attached to another post. Lewis 06-04-2003, 04:35 AM ...thanks, this is a revelation to me (wasn't aware of the problem) and a very timely one as, maybe, this was why I was having trouble with v1.30 the other day, when trying to set it as the default Ir driver on a Series 7. After selecting plBeam from the Control Panel (not Extras Bar for one off plBeam transfers), the screen went black for a second or two, followed by a spontaneous soft reset. Is this (one of) the v1.3 bug(s) referred to? Incidentally, this is the sort of soft reset I can only describe as the 'diddly-dum' rather than 'two beeps' sort! The same as I sometimes get when Opera crashes. Can anyone remind me what the difference is (if any)? Simon, I still have v1.25B which I think is the earliest I've downloaded (c.7.01) and I don't think I've ever encountered any problems with plBeam on a Psion (nB, S7 or MC218) before now. Can you confirm it's a nB-friendly version and, if so, would you like a copy of it instead of the v1.00 you already have? Lewis WolfUK 06-04-2003, 08:10 AM Lewis, I've been playing around with plBeam 1.3 a bit since I originally posted and it seems to be okay on my netBook. However, a while ago I did have problems with my ethernet card causing triple beep resets, often, but not always, when using IR so maybe this was linked in with the plBeam problems. Does anyone have any definitive information about what problems plBeam 1.3 causes and whether they are netBook or 7-only problems? Accoring to Psiloc themselves, "Soft resets is known system bug, it occures while any infrared activity if 'auto power off' time is set to more than 30 mins. Just set 'auto power off' to any lower value." Hang on to your 1.25B version ... I might well need it but I am going to carry on with 1.3 for a few days to see what happens. JKC 01-28-2004, 08:36 AM Hi all, I have just come across this post as I have only just started using plbeam and have been experiencing similar problems. So, here are my details: series7 latest build with 32Mb Ram nothing in pcima slot 64Mb compact flash card (though I forget the make) auto switch-off set to 10 minutes plBeam version 1.3 When I use normal infrared there is no problem When I use plBeam from the extra bar there's no problem When I use plBeam from the control panel I get a soft reset, sometimes of the 'diddly dum' variety and sometimes silent. Has anyone managed to resolve this? Jo wanman 01-28-2004, 09:57 AM Lo, I have registered v1.30 F plBeam installed on my 7Book and have not had any problems with it at all. I used to experience triple beep resets, but these were caused by my CombineIT card which has now been fixed by Psion. I think you had the same card Simon. I have only installed the control panel/drivers part of plBeam rather than the application aswell as I felt it was not really needed. Once it has been installed, you enter the new control panel option to enable plbeam. If you do not do this, your netBook will continue to use the Symbian standard IRDA protocols (not sure if this applies to the plBeam app aswell). Once you have enabled plBeam through the control panel, you transfer files in the normal way, using the Infrared send/receive options on the main drop down menus, and the plBeam protocols are defaulted. The only way to return to the Symbian offerings is to either uninstall plBeam or to perform a soft reset or if your machine resets. If your machine soft/triple beep resets, you have to then re-enable plbeam using the control panel option for your machine to start using the plbeam drivers again. I have never had any problems transferring files and it works perfectly for me. I would be interested to hear what other problems have been discovered with this app and wonder if it is actually plBeam causing them or perhaps something else? I know that Alarm+ can shut down my 7Book if my time is adjusted but not a reset. I have the latest netBook OS installed on my 7Book. Regards Si PDA Street
