IrDA to send / receive data

Hello!

I want to use my PPC Infrared port to send text streams to a recreative machine and receive text streams from it.

I'm developing on Visual Basic Embedded, and I'm using Ipaq 3760. But I only have a Comm control that i used before in serial communication to do the same. Now I need to do this by IR port instead of Serial Port.

Any idea about how may I establish connection by IR?
I don't know any IR control that functions like Comm control does.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
