Elsewhere on this forum I have described my problems getting an an Enterasys Wi-Fi card working with my Netbook. (Problem still unsol ved despite`much advice from forum members).

I now have a similar problem with wired ethernet. I have burchased a Psion Gold Card 56K Moden 10/100 MB Ethernet Lan Global CombineIT PCMCIA card, the one that is supposed to work with the Netbook. However, I have not been able to connect to the internet with it.

My system is:

ADSL line -> Westell DSL Moden -> Addtron router (1 Ethernet input to 4 ethernet outputs) -> Gold Card in Netbook.

The router and netbook can see each other, because the "Link" lights on both the router and the Gold Card dongle light up when I open Opera or Ping with flfngr. However, I reeive no response with ping and an error messgae (after dely) with oper, either "network error" or "cannot resolve host address."

I have tried both of the following setups: (1) Get internet address and DNS address from server; and (2) inputting the i.p. address and DNS addresses assigned by my ISP. Since my ISP assignes dynamic addresses, the IP adress changes with each sesion though the DNS addresses seem ti stay the same.

Could someone please elad me through the settings for both Ethernet settings and Internet settings? BTW, when I try to set up internet settings, the dropsown menu gives me choices of only dialup nd direct cable connection. I have been choosing the latter.

Thanks.

I hope I'm wrong, but I thought that the 10/100Mb card was Cardbus, ie it will not work with the Netbook.

This one does not say Cardbus anywhere n the card. I believe the Cardbus cards do.
It is the 10MB cards only that people on the forum and Psion have said don't work with the Netbook.

Try this:
Set the netbook up to have a static IP address.
Use the IP of the router as your DNS.
This worked for me on my Wireless card when DHCP wouldn't.
eg: netbook 10.0.0.4
netmask 255.255.0.0
Default gateway 10.0.0.2
DNS 1&2 10.0.0.2
(Where router has IP 10.0.0.2)
The IP from your ISP is irrelevant to the netbook (it belongs to your modem).
Good luck - hope this helps.;)

THANKS! Many, Many thanks to PlutoPants for solving my problems, both with the wired Gold Card ethernet card and with the Enyerasys wireless card!

The answer was to set my ethernet connection to fixed I.P. address, assign an I.P. to the Netbook and input the I.P. address of my router for the Default Gateway and both DNS Server addresses!

Now if he could only help me with the triple beep reset I SOMETIMES get when I send e-mail either out of the E-Mail application or from a web page.:p

I'm so glad it worked!
Since I've got my Netbook on broadband, my whole life has been so much easier!
The triple bleep? Urgh! Probably one of the things we all suffer with from time to time. I use Opera 5.14 and this does have bugs. (See other threads). I don't have this problem with Email. Might it be something to do with your SMTP settings? Again see another thread for discussion as many ISPs now have secureity settings for sending and you might need something extra.
regards
George.

If you get these with the wired Gold Card, the answer is a known bug in the card - send it to Psion support for free repair.
