I have bought a new Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 laptop and I have a Psion Series 5. I installed Psiwin 2.3.3 and during installation it was needed to connect the Psion Series 5 through a cable to the computer on a COM port. My new laptop has no COM port and so it was inpossible for me to make a connection. There is an IRDA port on the computer. Does anybody know how I van install software and make a connection to Psion Series 5.

I'm assuming your new laptop has either Windows 2000 or Windows XP - it's always nice to mention things like this when you post, by the way.

Assuming I'm correct about the operating system, you have two choices:

1. Use the 5mx with the IR port from your 5mx to the IR port on your laptop as your PsiWin connection. This is not as straightforward as with earlier versions of Windows but Martin Guthrie has worked out a solution and kindly posted the details at http://www.pscience5.net/IR/InfraRed-3.htm .

2. Get a USB to Serial convertor. There are any number of these out there but the bad news is that many of them don't seem to work with the 5mx. Belkin's convertor seems to get the highest marks for consistently working with a Psion but there may be others that work as well. If so, perhaps another forum member will chime in with their recommendation.
