Does anybody know how to re-index a mailbox in the epoc email app? Ihave a POP account Ican also access on the web. Recently Ilogged on on the web and deleted a load of messages, and now that Itry to check the mail box in Email Iget the error MsvServer , Reason 23. And cannot access that particular mailbox. All other mailboxes work fine., incidentally. Is there some way of re-indexing the mailbox without loosing all my other stored message?
Thanks,
D

Well, I think your Mail Index problems are less chronic than mine, if it's any comfort (see http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=15961 if you're really interested, but I wouldn't recommend it for light reading!). I think the Index you're referring to isn't the crucial main ...\Mail\Index file but, rather, the individual mail account 'UIDLS' file which should be located in a C\System\Mail\ subfolder called something like 00100009_F (i.e. ending in '..._F')
I believe this is a file which holds all the e-mail header information from the last time the remote mail server was accessed - this saves reloading all the header details afresh, with each connection. The particular '..._F' file you need (since you have multiple accounts) should be in reverse order compared to the list of accounts which appears when you tap on 'Open mail-box' - its Properties timestamp should equate to the last time you accessed that particular remote mailbox.
If this file has become corrupted (and I'm assuming your deletion of remote mails via the www is the cause of the error message), I would try moving the corresponding UIDLS file out of its folder (so the system can't 'see it' but it can still be reinstated, if necessary). I think Mail may then recreate a fresh index file when you next dial up that account (if you have many messages still held remotely on that account, this may take a little while), but I've never tried this myself - it's pure conjecture! The '_F' folder doesn't appear when a new account is first created, but only after it is first accessed remotely, from your Psion.
Hope this helps,
Lewis
