Can anyone give me a link to a UK web site selling an ethernet card (not wireless) suitable for a netbook.

I have looked through the archive and it seems that none of the cards stocked by expansys will work.

Thanks in advance...

Steve

The Buffalo Airstation WLI-PCM-L11GP-PC WiFi card at dabs.com works brilliantly using the Lucent settings.
It's about £30 ex VAT

Thanks for that but I'm really looking for wired as opposed to wireless ethernet...

Cheers

I was under the impression that they didn't work, but I'll give it a go at that price...

Thanks

If you have not already ordered one. Try one of these.

This is a modem and wired LAN card and will work on the UK phone networks with the following accessory.

WARNING - Card pictured is a 32-bit cardbus card. Cardbus cards will not work in the Netbook et al.

Note that Carbus cards usually (always?) have an extra metallic strip near the PC-Card connector, with a row of 'dimples' (for want of a better word). PCMCIA cards do not have this metallic strip.

Hmmm, I went for one of the UK models which was PC Card Lan/Modem and in stock, but after two weeks I received a letter stating they didn't have any and that the stock levels on their website could not be relied upon!

Don't get your hopes up with Expansys...

Just a heads up really.......

Based on the expansys forum I just bought a Psion Dacom 10Mb Gold Card which turned up today and turned out not to work. Follow this for an explanation:
http://www.expansys.com/forumthread...0-6012&thread=1

However, the other expansys reference quoted in this discussion still should:
http://www.expansys.com/forumthread...0-6110&thread=4

Just goes to show one should listen to the wisdom of the forum........

Well it did arrive... and...

It works!

I've only tested the ethernet bit, but it is working fine in my netbook...

Curious.

Mine arrived today as well (last one in stock!) and the ethernet component works fine too. However, the modem is not. I'd be interested in yours is the same Edwards_SJ.

It's not too much of a problem as I already have a gold card modem which works, but it would have been nice to have it one card.

These cards have been extensively discussed in the modem forum, and it seems as though quite a few people have had problems.

Any thoughts on fixing it as well if you are having the same problem.

I must admit I haven't tried the modem at all...

One thing I remember from the manual though is that there is a piece of software included which changed the country format.

As the expansys one is supposed to go to sweden perhaps you will need to change this.

You'll need a PC with a PCMCIA port unfortunately...

lol. Having spent a substantial part of my day reloading Win98 on to my laptop to change the country setting (no drivers for XP) when I had far more important things to do.......

I was just reading on another post that setting the modem to 57600 rather than 115200 will get it to work. And indeed it does. Works like a charm actually. Really good in fact. Not bitter about spending all that time on it when the fix takes 10 secs. Not blaming anyone either. I'm really, really cool about it.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am hanging my head in shame :(

I'm glad you got it working though...

Oh, it's my own fault Steve.

Further investigation reveals that this is a well known issue with these cards. It's even right there on diem's website. My own fault for not researching more and diving in with both size 12's. Anyway, at least I have a dual boot 98/XP laptop now.

btw, Diem, I am using a 756 7Book running OS build 158 with this card (Netglobal Gold 56K + Fax + 10Mbps) and it works fine with the above setting. Thought you might want it for your compatibility list.
