I recently bought a s\h S5. After about 3 days the screen started to flicker. When I removed the two hinge pins I discovered that applying a little pressure to the ribbon cable prevented this from happening. (You can remove these pins by starting to ease them out with a sharp instrument such as a blade {careful now!} and then pulling tem out the rest of the way with yuor fingernail). So, I decided to wedge something in there (either side of the cable) to keep it tight. Pieces of matchstick!, each 1 cm long and about one third of a match thick. I used a sharp blade ( a Stanley knife blade) to cut the match, please be careful! This repair worked fine for a few weeks, then I noticed some screen flickering, screen not turning on at all etc., so I opened it up again. This time, after making sure that the match pieces were tight, I applied a little super glue to the area. Now the machine works fine. Occasionally, when I turn it on (particularly if it has been off for quite a while) the screen will be dim or invisible, which is resolved by pressing the on key harder or by wiggling the screen a bit. Considering that my psion only cost £80 it was worth taking a risk by engaging in this weird repair job ( "botch job": rolleyes: I hear some of you say!)
