I have just bought a wireless router, a D-LinkDI-614+ Broadband Router and i got the D-Link Airplus PCMCIA wifi card thrown in with it
i have both running no problem with my cable modem on my windows machines but would like to use my mnetbook too
i dont want to run a network, just connect the psion to the internet via the cable modem, preferable wirelessly or if not thru the wired LAN, i also have a Psion GOLD combined modem /ethernet card
i have tinkered around with them both but the dongle when plugged in to the router and psion doesnt even light up
if someone could either explain or point me in the right dirsction i'd be very grateful
thanks

I think perhaps setting your netbook up with its own IP address might be worth a try.
This has recently been answered in this forum.
Try a search for 'fixed IP address' -
Yan's site www.sylvester.org.uk or is it sylvestre? is also worth a look.
Its silvester ;)
The DLink Airplus PC-Card you have will not work in the netBook, but the wired Gold card should do. As suggested, set up the netBook with a static IP, and see if it will connect - there's loads of info about this in my FAQ.
Good luck!

well after more messing around i think the pc card is no good
all i ever got was network problem whatever i tried to do
i then plugged in the modem cable and tried to use the normal moden and guess what ? network problem , yet i then uplugged the internet/ethernet card and plugged in the old 33k gold card i had been using and hey presto it started dialling
seems like i have been sold a dead one

:( That's annoying!
In theory, Psion offer lifetime support on these cards - there's a phone number in my FAQ for Gold Card support - I think it'd be worth sending it to them for testing.

If the Psion combined modem / LAN is a Cardbus version (metallic strip by the connector with dimples on it) then it will not work as this makes the card 32-bit, whereas netbooks only support the elder 16-bit PC cards
This might explain why it doesn't appear to work without it being a duff unit.
As for wireless, you will need to stick with the cards listed on the website already mentioned - only a few cards will work (due to the other manufacturers not having released netbook drivers), and even then some of them won't work with every machine. Again, some cards have multiple versions, and only certain ones work.

Worth having a look just to make sure... Is it definitely a PCMCIA card or does it have 'Cardbus' written on it?
Basically they are 16 bit and 32 bit respectively and only PCMCIA cards will work in a netBook.
There's been plenty of discussion about this on these pages.

is this not typical of psion though ?
i love psions, started with a 3a then 3c/5/5mx/7 and now mnetbook, oops forgot the revo for a short while too and probably the same as most of you guys, i changed to pocket pc and went out and boutght the netbook
but there has always been "issues" with the psion
this psion model will run such and such a memory card, might use some others, wont use a particular few. Another model will do the opposite. It took me ages to find a CF card my series 7 would function with, was always changing them. Then i bought a psion IR travel modem. States clearly on the box, for series 5/5mx/7 and netbook, but of course we all knoe it did not work on the series 7. Another 50 quid down the drain and its in the junk cupboard still. Now i also have, destined for the junk cupboard, a card bus modem/ethernet card, a wireless card - i could use it on a laptop- and an assortment of 33k pc card modems
then there was the issue of the series 5 shedding rubber all over the place, the revo losing its power after 5 minutes.
when i got my series 7, the touch screen would work for 5 minutes before losing it, the speaker wouldnt work without pressing down on a certain spot and we all remember the bloody pen issue with the series 5. no wonder they stopped making computers.
well thats my rant over for today, if anyone is in need of psion spare parts and accessories, i got boxes full of them, let me know.
best wishes to you die hard psioneers, theyre still great machines, if only they would work right
