Hi, I am trying to get my Clie to connect to my RandMcNally GPS reciever by using a Belkin serial/usb sync cable with a gender changer and a null modem adapter. I've read this should work however I'm not having any luck. Can any please post some insight on if/how this might work. I understand that pc-cables makes a null modem cable, Can I get it to work with what I've got already? Thanks
Tyler

I have a Clie T665 with an Earthmate GPS that I am trying to cable up. I am interested in anything that connects to the Clie and leaves me with a DB9 serial connection to plug the GPS into.
What did you use? Makes and part numbers would be helpful. Thanks

I have a Clie T665 with an Earthmate GPS that I am trying to cable up.
Goto the Delorme website, click on the GPS then there is a place for cables. They are not directly from Delorme but they do have ones to hook the 665 to a Delorme GPS.

Alphaone-
I'm glad you got your GPS working. I'm a newbie who bought the Clie mainly to use with a GPS. It wasn't until after I bought it that I discovered there aren't any GPS's made especially for the Clie (615C in particular). Could you please provide details for a newbie on how you got yours working? Which model GPS specifically and how to hook up the cables and which software you run, etc. Thanks a whole bunch!

Hi I purchased a Belkin USB/Serial sync cable from BestBuy and was disapointed when I found out that my RandMcnally GPS would not work work with it. The Clie is a unique palm product because it does not contain the circuitry to work with serial devices that do not supply power to the cable. A pc will work because it will supply voltage on the DTS pin of the serial cable.
To get my Delorme to work I had to cut off the serial end of the Delorme cable and purchased a 9pin serial cable end from radio shack and two 9v battery clips. To get the Clie to recognize the GPS I put the postive end of 9v battery cable to the DTS pin. I don't remember the exact pin number (If you are going to proceed to make one I will get out my notes for you) I solderd in the existing pins and latter soldering in a 9v battery caps for the actuall GPS unit itself. I was learning as I went so it took a few trys but I eventually got it working.
In hind sight I wish I would have spent the $60 and ordered a cable online. The Belkin cable was $30 and after I purchased a soldering gun, voltage meter,solder,2 9pin serial ends (fucked up one) It all added up to over $70 not including the weekend I spent dicking with it.

Thanks so much for the info! I'll probably buy the cable instead of building one since my soldering skills leave a lot to be desired. I can't wait to give it all a try, though.
