At work earlier tried to connect to e-mail and had forgotten how to use the '9' prefix option. Could not for the life of me remember despite using it before, had to change the number in control panal temporarily. Thick or what?

Nigel, on the "connect to Internet" dialogue, change location from "home" or "mobile" to "office". :)

Sorry, Nigel, I wasn't very specific.
Assuming that you haven't changed the default dialling settings in control panel on your Psion, this should work. Do "open mailbox", select the one you want if you have more than one, then you should have the "connect to Internet" dialogue.
The top item there should be "Location", which should give a choice of "home", "mobile" or "office". You will see the number to be dialled change as you switch between the options.
If you don't see that, then you probably have changed the default settings, and we need to dig a bit deeper. Post again if you need more help.

OK, Nigel, let's try this:
Control Panel > Dialling > Location - select "Current location" as "office"
Then press "edit", select the "dial out" tab and enter "9," for both local and long distance dial-out codes. Don't forget to enter the comma.
Press "OK", then "OK" again.
Does that work?

Nigel, I'm trying to understand your last post. It sounds like you don't have any "location" settings at all on your machine.
If that's the case, you need to go through the process I just described, and set them up, via the "New" option.

Struggling to understand at a distance here! We got a bit confused there - think I'm with you now.
Go to Control Panel > Internet and select the relevant "Current Internet Service"
Then press "edit", and make sure that "smart dialling" is checked. If it's not then I'm pretty sure that is your problem. Check the box and confirm the settings.
PLEASE tell me that works for you!

Nigel,
In Control Panel > Internet, make sure the "Show connection dialog" box is checked so that each time you try to connect, the dialog box is displayed from which you can change the Location.

Mike, I'm pretty sure that Nigel has got the connection dialog, because he mentions the other settings on that screen. Just the location option that's missing - I think it must be the smart dialling setting.
It was all a bit tricky to follow though!

OK :)
Nigel, double check that:
1) In "Control Panel > Dialling", you have a Location configured which has a "9" dial out in the Local and Long distance boxes.
2) You are using smart dialling
3) As per my previous message, In "Control Panel > Internet", make sure the "Show connection dialog" box is checked so that each time you try to connect, the dialog box is displayed from which you can change the Location.

Thanks Mike, for a clear summary of what had become a bit of a jumble.
Nigel, hope you can sort it now! :)

YES YES YES Did all that and it has worked why did I change them before. I think I have a impulse to 'TRY' things on the Psion and obviously did not put it right. Thanks again Julie and Mike. PS why does an extra '0' get added to the dial up number with this option selected had to remove one from the standard dial up nunber. NOOOO here we go again!! Nigel:D

why does an extra '0' get added to the dial up number with this option selected When using "smart" dialling with the Psion, the leading zero must be omitted from the area code, unlike Dial Up Networking on the PC where it is included. Therefore, enter the number in the format:
[+44] [845] [4550280]
(which is actually Virgin Net's number)
