Has anyone had any REAL success with traing this remote?
I have a IIIc model and I thought it was supposed to work gret with it. I haven't gotten it to work at ALL!!!
Is it patience? How long REALLY does it take to train this thing per button?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

it worked fine with my IIIc. took only a second per button, it did not work when the remote was to close though i had to keep it a foot away. try going to "training settings" and using "auto detect" and follow the instruction, then try to train the remote.

i was successful in setting omni remote up by holding the source remote about six inches away from my iiic. i programmed everything i possibly could. how cool this will be, i thought. using it however is a different matter.
since the LED on the palm is meant for close range data transfer, i almost need a laser sight to aim it at a television 12 feet away.
anybody with similar results?

Thanks for your replies!!! I appreciate it.
By the way (I know this is extra :-), but do either of you know how to download avantgo channels onto plucker? I looked in the docs that came with it AND on thier website, (plucker), but I can'y find the URL's anywhere!!! I swear before I started using Plucker (before the GUI cam out) I saw something about "You can still use your favorite Avantgo channel's" Thanks if you can help, thanks if you can't for looking. go to http://www.sitescooper.org and look through the site files, many of them are for avantgo channels and you can get the url from them.

Hi
Am considering to get the Omni Remote Pro for my IIIc
Do I need to get the additional ir adaptor if i want my IIIc remote to work, say 3 meters/10 feet away from the machines? uuuhhmmm... hopefully not?
What is your experience with required aiming accuracy and max distance with IIIc?
TIA

janjan,
I've experimented with Omniremote using a IIIxe and IIIc quite a bit and unfortunately find it to be mostly ineffective for day to day stuff. The IR on a Palm just wasn't meant to be shot across a room. It's a great program but as far as using it as a substitute for a universal remote it just doesn't work well. I find the range to be 5 feet maybe, 10 is iffy. If there is an IR extender and it works well then that could change everything. Like I said the program is really good.
I'm interested to know if anyone really uses this as their primary remote. I haven't has much luck with the program simply due to the Palm's IR limitations.

hmmm.... 5 ft reach.
I can reach the TV control panel with my toes at that distance! ;)
I might get the extender IF and WHEN (and it depends on what comes up on the Tungsten, when and how much) I retire my IIIC from active duty and used just as a remote.

I've found that the IR port on my IIIc has a much larger horizontal range than vertical range. If I aim it about 5 feet to the side of the IR sensor on my stereo, it works fine, but if I aim it less than 1 foot above it, it doesn't. so if I hold it flat, I can reach it from at least 10-12 feet away. (maybe more, but the room is too small to check that)

I dumped the app after I found I had to get up and walk closer to the TV to make it work. I found a great fix for it though...I picked up the remote that came with the TV, and it works great!!!

LOL! What a good idea! Sierrasport! :D
Unfortunately my remote is broken, the electrode layering under contact pad has disintegrated (yes, I took the remote apart to try and fix it). The buttons work in about 1 out of 10 presses.
Trying to train the Omni Remote before my tv remote is totally gone.

janjan,
If you'r looking for a true universal remote, check out the Radio Shack 15-2104. It will do everything you need plus more. It's $40 but sometimes goes on sale for $30 or less. There is a website that supports it:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/
If you really get in to it you can even build a simple interface box that will let you program it with your PC.
