I have just purchased a T/C and installed the supplied WorldMate program. On the Palm website the screen shot of this program shows it with a day/night footprint but this is not showing on my T/C. Does anyone know what it should be like?

My T|C came with the regular Worldmate also. However, the photo is of the MobiMate PRO version. Clearly a mistake on the Palm site. The version I received is the SE (Standard Edition) 8.3/

However, I noticed on the MobiMate site that there is a version 9.2 that is a free upgrade for existing users (not pro). I sent them an email asking for the upgrade since I DID buy the Palm which means I DID buy the Worldmate a well. I just sent it Friday and haven't heard anything yet.

I would expect, however, that they want you to buy the upgraded.

Also, have you looked into the Internet time thingy? the '@' sign on the top right of the main page? I understand the concept but the time does NOT match the time on the Swatch site. I checked yesterday and the time was way off on my palm. i just checked now on 10:24PM Boston Time and the Swatch site reports @141 and my Tungsten reports @183. Clearly a problem.

Cheers,
H

I did the same thing. Here is their response:

Dear Mate

The WorldMate on your Tungsten is a demo,

WorldMate 9 is not a free upgrade.
You can upgrade to WorldMate 9 at only $7.95 at:
http://www.mobimate.com/purchasing/wm9_upgrade.shtml

Subject: WorldMate upgrade

> Good morning. I am a bit confused. On your web site it says that upgrades
to version 9 for purchases after May 2002 are free. Then right below that it
says that you have started charging for upgrades. I just bought a Palm
Tungsten C which came with version 8.3.1. Do I qualify for the upgrade to
the later version 9.0 or not? Also following your web site's instructions, I
downloaded the newer version and installed it over the older one. It
converted to a trial version and was asking for a registration code. I did
not see a registration code anywhere in the documents that I got with the
Tungsten. I therefore uninstalled version 9 and went back to version 8.3.1.
>
> Please advise as to whether I qualify for the upgrade and if I do please
advise as to how I go about doing the upgrade. I registered on your site
last evening under my name which is André Warner.

So what does release 9 have that is not in 8? Why not go to Pro instead???

I have no idea. I didn't look into it that extensively. I just wanted to upgrade to the latest version of Standard if it was no charge. I haven't decided if to pop the $7.95 for the upgrade to 9.x. The version that comes with the Palm (8.3.1) seems to have an issue on the world map screen (or I am using it incorrectly). Whenever I click on different areas of the map, I get city names that are nowhere near where I have clicked. Before I upgraded (if I do) I would need to re-instlall the trial of 9.x and see if that particular bug (if is is one) has been addressed.

I also found it interesting that the person from MobiMate called the 8.3.1 version a demo. It says that it is registered to me and it doesn't indicate on any of the screens that it is a demo. All the features seem to work as well.

My plan is to nag them hopelessly until they say Uncle.

Demo, what demo? That is not what the Palm install CD says. Nothing else in the box is a "demo". A few links maybe but not demo.

Let's see what happens.

I emailed Mobimate and they sent me a free registration to 9.2. However, as mentioned above, Worldmate 9.2 SE is defective. I emailed them once again and they suggested I avail of the $14.95 upgrade to Pro 1.1. Here's the link they sent me:

I wrote them back and explained that I didn't think the version that came with the Tungsten C was a demo. I got a reply that said sorry for the mix up and that I was entitled to the update to 9.2. I've sent back my user ID so that they can send me the code. I donwloaded the 9.2 trial version and the mapping issue seems to have been resolved in it. Can you tell me what the issue with 9.2 is that makes it be defective? Thanks.

Whenever I update the time, worldmate time and the system clock would be off by about a week. Mobimate advised me they were working on an update to 9.2.

Yup....nagging them helped. Gave them my user name and got a new registration # today. The @Internet time thing still seems to be off compared to what the Swatch site says.

Version 9.2 added daylight/night overlay on the map and a packing list option to list items to pack for a trip. Duh! If you are a global traveller, I don't think you need to make a list!

and JUST as i was typing this message and updated my clock with the atomic clock sync option it has repeatedly adjusted my clock by 3932224 seconds or about 2 months! What the heck is going on?

If you can afford a TC, you can afford to get the Pro version of Worldmate. They just upgraded to 1.1 which fixed the screen image for the clock and a bunch of small fixes. For the money it works fine. Why waste so much energy & time when the solution is so cheap - and works.

Worldmate Pro is certainly worth the $14.95 upgrade price. Its actually the full version and doesn't require that Worldmate SE be in your palm to install. Regular price is $40!

After reading all that was said in this thread about WorldMate, I emailed MobiMate and got an activation code from them for SE 9.2. They were very good about it.

They also told me that an up-date is due any day now (9.2.1) which will be free to upgrade to for existing users.

So far I think 9.2 is working fine, but I will upgrade when the new release comes out. Why spend money when you don't have to?

The weather reports are really good. They are more accurate than what we get on the radio and TV news here. And getting up-to-date exchange rates is a real boon.

If you've got issues with WorldMate, I'd suggest writing them a friendly email. They certainly responded well to mine.

I agree, Worldmate runs 9.2SE runs great. The only thing PRO adds, which I see, is travel itinerary entry/storage.

I use the metric conversion, Currency exchange and time zones regularly before calling outside the country.

I DO have two bugs that they confirmed would be addressed in the new fix.
1. Internet Time Sync sets my clock ahead 2 months.
This problem seem to happen after a day. Didn't happen
as soon as I used that function.

2. The "@" time/Swatch Time reports the wrong time compared to what the Swatch site was reporting at any time.
