Hello Everybody!
I have been dealing with this issue for months now:
I can't post anything here on psionplace directly from my netbook.
No matter which kind of connection I am using (56 kb, GPRS, wi-fi): it seems that the system does not recognize myself.
the only way to post something is going back to my PC, which is something I do not always have in the nearby.
has anybody else ever experienced the same?
any ideas to solve this problem?
cheers

Just an idea, inorder to post on the board you must be logged in. This information is stored in Cookie files so if you have cockies turned off in your browser posting may not function. I have successfully posted from my Series 7 from the 56k modem using Opera.

What sort of error messags do you get.

I use opera and netbook often with landlione and mobile and works OK if a bit slow

Hi gianluca

I think that David is probably right and that this will be an issue with cookie settings.

I use my netBook frequently for posting to the forums, connecting either by landline/Gold Card modem, or by GPRS cellphone, and I know that other forum members regularly do so too.

Assuming you are using Opera, "cookie control" is on the Preferences > Privacy menu. Perhaps if you check that first, and if that is not the problem, we will think again! :)

Thank you all for caring about my (connection) problems!
I read your replies on my nB from my WI-FI as well as GPRS or landline connection.
However, I haven't replied you before as the system keeps on considering me as "not logged in".
I had previously considered the cookie option inside Opera, but I am still puzzled with it.
Here is my current configuration:
1) privacy preferences
All the three boxes are ticked:

2) cookies
Accept cookies: all
accept from servers: display third party
throw away new cookies on exit: not checked
display warning for illegal domains: not checked
display warning for illegal path: ticked

pls let me know if there is something wrong with it.

Please note that the system never show myself logged in with my nB in the list of the people connected. if you see my name is only because I am connected via PC.

The most curious thing is that as soon as I try to reply to a post, the system requires me to insert my username and password.
I can write the reply then, but when it's time to submit it, the system refuse to accept it and there is no way to do otherwise.

any further ideas?

This is a test post from netBook - attempting to reproduce gianluca's problem

Hmm, well the test post from netBook worked OK. I did that by logging out, browsing around, then entering my username/password when attempting to post - post went straight through, no problem.

Gianluca, exactly what error message do you receive at that point, please?

The only difference between your Opera cookie settings and mine is that I have "Accept from servers" set to "Any".

Just to help:
My (working) settings are:
1) privacy preferences

First 2 of the3 boxes are ticked:

2) cookies

Accept cookies: all

accept from servers: any

throw away new cookies on exit: not checked

display warning for illegal domains: not checked
display warning for illegal path: ticked

Security prefs: Ask for password once per sessionnnection

Connections: Identify as IE5

Really does sound like a cookie issue.
The way you seem to not appear in the 'users browsing this forum' list from your netbook.

Might disabling your disk cache have any effect?
Just clutching at straws for you!

WOW your Malaybook has a wife, I am jealous, I hope they have progeny soon, and netbook pro could be born; happy union to them ;-)

(sorry no offence meant about your English gramma, mine is appaling and I am English, I just couldn't resist, thanks for all your contributions to bringing about a symbian netbook pro)

Is your wife's Mbook using Opera 5.14 to connect to this site ?

If the Mbook is using Opera 5.14, then I sugggest that the problem is somewhere in your Opera settings, and I recommend that you copy the Opera.ini file from the Mbook to the Netbook. Only do this if the Mbook is also running Opera 5.14.

FWIW I have no problems posting to this site from any of my Netbooks or Mbooks.

Ciao Ralph,

Unfortunately, trial period for Opera 5.14on my wife's malaybook ended so I am not sure whether copying Opera.ini from hers might be suitable for mine. In fact, the very last time I used hers, Opera 3.62 had taken over Opera 5.14 (probably immediately after the trial period had expired).

Now I wonder if deleting Opera.ini from my netBook might be fine as well. Perhaps a new Opera.ini might be created as soon as I would open Opera again.

what do you think?

Do I risk losing something if I try doing so?

any comments will be far more than appreciated

cheers

Just moved my opera.ini file to the root of drive C: Same as deleting the file as far as Opera is concerned.

Like many ER5 applications, Opera appears to be able to recreate the opera.ini file on the C: drive, as soon as you press 'OK' in preferences.

So deleting the opera.ini file does not appear to cause any serious problems.

Ciao Ralph,
the trick of deleting opera.ini did not work to my cause.
now i am thinking about performing a hard reset (after a good backup, of course)...
any other ideas?
cheers

Ciao Ralph and everybody who may be reading this!

i tried deleting opera.ini, but the new one which autogenerated itself was not useful to let me be recognised by the system.

i even tried with an opera.ini file downloaded from another thread (actually a CSHandley's post in the "plan B" thread) but also this attempt was not successful...

i came back into checking the opera app folder in system and i found that almost every file inside this folder is dated today or yesterday, with the exception of the following two:

ocpcacrt5.dat (07/09/02)
opssl5.dat (12/07/02)

does anybody know what they are all about?

unless I find a better trick, I am afraid that the only solution left is a good backup, a hard reset and a restore session

any other ideas?

cheers

Perhaps the problem is a corrupt cookie in Opera 5.14 ??

Suggest that you delete the cookie file, although I do not know at present which file Opera 5.14 stores its cookies in.

Q. What is the name of the file used to store Cookies in Opera 5.14 ?

Also try setting 'clear cache on exit'. Perhaps you're getting some HTML error being returned from Opera's cache ??

Only other way I know of blocking access to a particular web site, is by congifuging a 'hosts' file. I use this technique to block ad sites :-)
