I've done a bunch of searches but cannot find the answer to some basic Palm OS 5 questions-- right now I use a m505 with PiDirect II software to allow my Palm to "see" my 64MB SD card as if it were contiguous with main memory, allowing both apps and data to run straight from SD card without first copying to main memory. Now, does Palm OS 5.2 in the Zire 71 do this natively, or does it still copy SD card apps to main memory to run like OS 4 does?
Basically I'm wanting to know if I can just have apps and data anywhere in the Zire 71 or SD card and not have to worry if they will run fine or not-- this was a problem with the m505 until I got PiDirect II and I'm not sure if this will run on OS 5. Thanks for any feedback!

If its on the sd card you can't move it from there.

I've been able to transfer apps to my SD card - including ProWord, Mobipocket Reader, Dial! and Scriptures+ and Kinoma Player. I'm not sure what programs cannot be moved. Apparently those that are copy-protected (e.g., RealOne) cannot.
Once a particular program has been moved to SD card, the icon on your launcher will show a dot before the icon name. You can run the program as usual by tapping the icon.
The Zire 71's processor is so fast that I've not noticed any significant difference between running a program residing in RAM and running the same program in SD card.
A program such as FileProg will make it easier to move programs as well as databases to SD card and back to RAM. The operation can be done with the same ease with MegaLauncher.
I hope this sheds some light.
Good luck.

Further to my post:
By using Filez, you can remove the "copy-protect" attribute of RealOne (main app plus all related databases) and move it to the SD card. However, I've found that I cannot run RealOne once it has been transferred to the card. Perhaps other Zire 71 users have succeeded in doing so and can give us some tips.

From the Palm Desktop 5, I can install an app on Palm card (direct memory) or on SD card without any problem. The nature functions on Zire allow to copy or transfert apps from Palm card to SD card in both ways. Some particulars apps don't allow this transfert, as Real One. Same for Pic To Go, although Word To Go and Sheet To Go can be easely transferred both ways.
Time to work with photos on Palm card is acceptable; but it seems to me very, very slow to work with photos on SD card. It takes close to minute to build pictural catalog of 80 photos. Better to manage photos with Desktop!
Transfert photos from Palm card to SD card is long, too: some 10 seconds by photo. Synchronizing Zire with lots of photos on SD card is very quick, maybe only 20 seconds more for 100 new photos: very good thing!
Using Zire as "surprise! camera" is very great and very, very funny; managing the photos on Zire needs to manage yourself... :-)
