I have recently purchased a IR Printer Link and I cannot get it to work with my 5mx.

I have a HP 722C Printer. There is communication between Psion and link, no errors shows on the mx and the LED on the link lights up but nothing happens on the Printer. I get a progress bar as data is sent.

Tried the HP 660C, the HP 340 and the Generic setting.

Serial Link has been on, off, connected, disconnected, is there some permutation I missed?

Or is it that the printer is just not compatible?

Thank you for any help available.

Have you installed the drivers of Andrew Johnson available at this web page

http://www.aps.anl.gov/~anj/bjc80/ ???

I installed the drivers but no dice. Still no printing.

Thanks anyway.

Any other suggestions?

Or is it that the printer is just not compatible? That is possible if it is a "Windows" printer, i.e requires a Windows operating system to work and doesn't actually have the necessary built-in fonts to print with a Psion.

Try printing with the "General" driver and print via set to "Infrared". There will be no formatting, only plain text, but it might confirm that the printer will actually print from a Psion.

No, still no printing. The LED on the link turns on, Psion displays a progress bar. But the printer takes no action.

There is also no error from the Psion or the link.

The Printer is a Hewlett Packard Deskjet 722C.

It prints via PC just fine. I'm at a loss here.

It does rather sound as if the printer is not compatible with direct printing from the Psion. "Printing via PC" will work because the Windows software is doing the printing. I can only suggest trying your IR device with a different printer or, if you can get one, try using the Parallel Printer Link (the direct cable between Psion and printer) with your 722C.

Intrigued by the issue, I browsed HP website and searched for more information about the HP 722c printer.
I noticed that it never mentioned the possibility to use any infrared communication device while it only mentioned a bi-directional cable.
I am wondering if the HP 722c printer supports Infrared communication.
Since it is an old printer (1977 ??) it should be supported by Andrew Johnson's drivers. So I am more oriented to think that the problem is probably a printer one.
Did you try to print with a PC through Infrared port?
Nevertheless Andrew J. talks about a serious bug in the Psion infrared port that he fixed it with the driver version 1.05.

What kind of Infrared device are you using between your Psion and the Hp printer?

The type of IR link is an (Psion)Diamond Mako IR printer Link.

I do not have a direct printer link or a PC IR link.

I'll try to check with other printers at the local electronics store.
