:) Hi, I am using my Tungsten C in my office by a Cisco WLAN using WEP key, but the systems guys tell me that a new protocol will be installed 802.1x or LEAP (Lightweight Extensible Autentification Protocol)
Anyone know if TC support this protocol?
I will requiere a patch?

Thanks

Ed

As far I as I understand it, LEAP is not yet supported on T|C. It's slated to be supported by end of Summer...or at least that's what they had on their website.

All versions of Wi-Fi that will be coming out in the future WILL support the 802.11b standard because they all operate with in the 2.4GHz band , for instance the 802.11a, 802.11c,802.11q, and any other version are all compatible with 802.11b since they operate with in the 2.4GHz band

But because the 802.11q is made specificly for long range and will be able to handle 22MBps instead of the 802.11b 11MBps, you can still use your Tungsten C with it, but you wouldn't be able to use it as far away from the access point as you would a device that was made with 802.11q Wi-Fi, or be able to transfer at the 22MBps rate

What is all boils down to is, that any Wi-FI devices that come out with 802.11x and operates with-in the 2.4GHz band will be comatible with the 802.11b devices

The main question here is what do we need to install on the Palm T|C to allow us to access an office WLAN that uses LEAP authentication. I have called and emailed Palm and they have not been any help.

Does anyone out there work in an office environment with a WLAN that utilizes LEAP authentication and has installed software that will allow you to access the internet via your office WLAN?

I get the feeling that we will have to BUY!!! an add on program to make this work. I can connect to the WLAN's at home, Starbucks/Tmobile, McDonald's/Wayport, etc., but not in my office environment with LEAP.

PALM!!!! what's the answer?

Thanks!

I have never used LEAP, so i do not know if this section of an article will be of any help but here it is, it is from palmblvd.com
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meetinghouse and Palm said LEAP, developed by Cisco, requires mutual authentication, which means both the user and access point to which the user is attempting to connect must authenticate one to the other before network access is granted. In addition to LEAP security, Palm said an IPSec VPN (virtual private network) client will address remote access security. Both Meetinghouse LEA security and the VPN client should be available later this summer.
