When I try to set up a partnership it won't detect anything. If I click get connected and it starts going between the PDA and the PC and then I dock it while it's going it automatically freezes and then it says not detected. It is driving me crazy. Someone please help and also if your caring.....LOL!!!! I want to set up avantgo again but am not ready to tackle the chore...Any advice?????Thanks!!!

Here's the link to a post I did further down. It has links to an ActiveSync troubleshooting guide and the new ActiveSync 3.6:D

If you're running W2k or WXP, you might try the following after cradling the iPAQ:

1. open the Control Panel
2. double-click the SYSTEM icon
3. click on the Hardware tab
4. Click on the Device Manager button
5. Right-click the Computer icon
6. Select "Scan for hardware changes" from the menu.

If your are using windows 95-98-me go to the device maneger and look onder the "Windows CE USB Devices" Make sure only one "Compact iPAQ USB Sync" is listed. If there are more than one delete both and reboot.

For avantgo, don't worry, it's a piece of cake. Just follow the online instructions.

I am running Windows 98 and when I go into my device manager I don't even see anything that has to do with Windows Ce USB devices. I did locate the USB part and deleted everything, then I rebooted and it went through the detection process. What strange is that when I go through the " Get Connected " part of Activesync and the click for the transmission between the PDA and the computer, then while it's going I try to dock the Ipaq and it freezes the transmission. If I pull it out of the cradle you can see that it starts again, but if I out it back in the cradle again it will freeze.

You should try the Get Connected button after you place the iPAQ on the cradle. Get Connected doesn't really search for communications but attempts to connect to the iPAQ on the various buses. The display you get after it finishes its search really is misleading because if it hasn't found the device by the time it shows you the list of ports available (COM1, COM2, USB, etc) it has finished its attempt to find the iPAQ.

Tried that as well. It doesn't freeze when I do it that way but it still comes up undetected. Is there anyway I can call someone from Ipaq or anything else for that matter to walk me through this problem. This is the 2nd Ipaq I have had and have never had such a problem like this. I think it's ActiveSync to tell you the truth. I am getting so frustrated.... Thanks for all the help everyone.

Greetings;

I see a qustion no one asked and I have a suggestion.
Are you connecting with a serial or usb connection?

If you goto the activesync window and click on file>connection settings you will see the setting screen. Make sure that "allow USB connection with this computer" is checked or if yopu are using serial make sure that it's also checked. you can also access this by right clicking the icon in the lower right of your screen and chosing connection settings.
I use USB but have both serial and usb checked and it works fine.
